I wish the Tour played more courses that had driving trouble.

Theres hardly ever any OB and when there is it's a mile away. DeChambeau is hitting it off the map and is always in trampled down rough.

I wonder if they stop cutting the fairway would help role back distance. But I agree they need more OB or high rough.

Let the rough past 300 yards grow to 5 or 6 inches and watch how fast the playing field levels out.

The courses I play are often through developments and swamp just off the fairway is usually OB in a yard or a jungle lol, theres no trampled down rough.

I’ve said this before in other threads but for a couple of years I was close to the professional golf scene from the business side of things. And unless things have changed in the past 10 or so years, the sponsors putting up the big dollars for these tournaments want to see long drives and birdies.

Those two things generate viewers way more than watching 5 footers for pars. Just look at the ratings when Zach Johnson is near the lead vs Bryson, Koepka, etc. So there’s no incentive to change anything as far as the professional game is concerned.

Where Rahm just chipped from would have been in the shite on nearly every hole we play on.

This is a terrible idea. So just the long hitters get penalized?

Tournament Golf should be a game of not just power, but finesse & skill. The best in the world should have to be able to work the ball in each direction and endure harsh penalties for missing the fairway.

Shooting 22 under every week doesn't help the game's growth IMO.

It's true...

We want to see a guy either hole a 330 yd par 4, or bang out a snowman on a par 3.

Feast/Famine golf for the win!

No but 4 straight weeks of playoff golf does. On Sunday the score doesn't matter just the margin of victory from an entertainment standpoint. Golfers love to see the struggle but your marginal fan is going to want to see the long ball and insane putting skill.

Tournament golf is about getting the ball into the hole in less strokes than the field. Nothing more, nothing less. You can talk about distance all you want but the reason DeChambeau was at -27 was that he was #2 in the field in putting for the week. Cantlay was the only guy to out putt him for the week.

Seeing, or playing, a golf course in the UK is an eye opening experience.

I think Bay Hill has a lot of OB (Houses everywhere). People don't realize how accurate the long drivers are versus weekend golfers.
