Revisiting Squares first true sequel in FF. FFX-2

So this game was a quagmire of epic proportions first the story they went with was absolutely pathetic. It’s like they chose the worst possible one. The characters outside of Yuma were poor choices. I do think the combat system is one of the best they’ve ever produced and that’s saying something, even if it doesn’t get to shine often since it’s easy. The mission style structure I liked except the dumb ones. I think this was only in the remaster version but the monster arena was amazing. It provides the only real challenge and let’s tou eventually recruit all ffx characters including Seymour and Tidus. So thoughts on this? Abomination or rays of light

definitely not an abomination. The combat was really fun. Some of the sidequests were fun. The background music was almost as good as FFX in a lot of places.
But my god the first 5-6 hours of the game is PAINFUL to get through. Once the tone gets a little more serious, the game really gets good.

Final boss was a total joke too. It was basically a QTE
And the secret dungeon 99 floors identical was so tedious had hard bosses though. That snake man

I loved this game, the battle system was the best version of the ATB system, and there were a lot of really fun dressphere combos.
The story isn't the best, like above I agree that the first couple chapters have a lot of cringe...but I think that may have been the intention, idk. It does get better as you go but you really have to stick with it.
Really underrated FF game IMO.

I have been meaning to replay both of these games but haven't gotten to it. I liked the more light-hearted nature of this game even when you include the serious parts. The dress sphere system was fun. The HD version has a few extra dress sphere not on the OG game, so I'd like to see those.
Its not as memorable as FFX but I think it's a very adequate sequel, if somewhat unexpected in story and presentation.

I don’t think I ever finished it. I’d get pissed off because I would forget to watch one of the cameras for long enough or not pan left or whatever, which you needed to get the 100% story completion.

Cat nip cheese got mega nerves in remaster so you couldn’t cheat the snake boss in 99 flood dungeon. She’s damn near impossible without. Pain Berserker, Yuna Mascot, Riku Alchemist but some dark knight when Yunaa crush’s can hang

Btw if you choose new yevon you cannot get 100% story on first play through anyway

Everything about this game is actually great, except the story. The story is awful, and it wouldn’t be a bad idea just to skip the cut scenes. Some of the characters are just lame too.
I might start a new game soon, this is making me want to play.

IM doing a replay of 10 gearing up for dark aeons then doing and challenge run of X-2 with self imposed limited

Any one got any good ideas for self imposed challenges for the ff x-2 run I’m about to begin? I have tried doing only the dress sphere your are cannon before so gunner thief warrior whole game but it’s more frustrating than fun. Here’s what I got so far
No girl can have the same dress sphere active in load out at any time
No girl can cross train in what I consider a few canno roles the girls have. Obvs the start 3, Riku alchemist, Yuna Black Mag and White Mage, Pain Warrior Berserk Samurai. Monsters and accessories can be used to make up lack of magic or anything else where needed
Speaking of monster arenas and on my team. No heavy monsters, no almighty shinra or obvious boss level (most are heavy anyway), no playable characters from this game or ffx
No abusing Dark Knight, especially on the super boss in the desert where all three can just soak the all attack for 30 min while healing. In fact might outlaw dark night.
No mascot. Maybe forbidding some of the latter dress sphere containers of loadour designs whatever they’re called. Some are super powerful and the dress change bonuses can be ridiculous
Any other ideas?
