Got an email to redeem for a free Chromecast w/ Google TV.

Why not.

Check your email.

It says they are already out of stock now. When I first clicked on the link to redeem, it added one to my cart and claimed it was discounting $49.99 from my $49.99 balance, leaving me with a $0 balance. But when I went to the checkout page, it said it was discounting the $49.99 from some random $149 total, leaving me owing around a $100. So of course I removed it right away. Lame! I knew that was too good to be true. They aren't just gonna give stuff away for free.

No kidding. I read the email once I got it about 2:15pm and delayed.

Went back 30 minutes later and did it fully discounted. Posted here.

Must have went fast.

By the way, this seems to be a promo running with their upgrade package to 4k and 5.1 audio. I'll think about that when I see how much you can actually get in 4k and the quality reports come in.

I don't really need 4k except sports. Most movies and shows I'm watching on another platform.

Yeah I saw the email and shrugged it off to do later. Then went for a walk about 5 minutes later and ordered it. Glad I remembered to come back to it.

Needed a chromecast for my new LG since they don't have the HBO Max app for some reason.

I hope it works well. I'd like to free up my Nvidia shield for my projector room.

I sideloaded GeForceNow onto my projector but it's sluggish and pushes the projector hardware. The Shield would take the load off.

All of that stuff is way over my head

Is Nvidia shield just another platform like roku, firestick, etc?

Yes, but it's basically a small computer so it can do a whole lot more than those platforms.

So, I got the email and said I’ll do it later.

I came back at 8pm and clicked it, it populated the item in the cart and the 49.99 discount and total of $0 then out of nowhere said “out of stock/removed from cart.” Figured I was too late and missed out

However, for some reason (I guess out of boredom) I kept trying….went back to email a couple times and reclicked link….same “out of stock” message a few times….but it finally went through to the submit order screen, order confirmed. So if at first it tells you out of stock, keep trying and going back to email. Took me about 4-5 times and it finally took the order with no “out of stock” message

Got mine in yesterday. Set it up fairly quickly

I wonder if this is a loyalty thing for already having chromecasts? YTTV subscribers? Purchasing other Google products? as means to win over possible ROKU peeps?

I got one too. Does Google TV compile your favorite content from all of your streaming services?

Yes, and a little Netflix too plus all the others. Netflix and Google are playing nice right now.

Hell now that Google Stadia is on the chromecast it’s a damn good streamer. And we’re an Apple family.

I used mine for the first time last night.

Pros:
- Nice GUI
- Smooth and fast (slow booting though)
- Nice integration with YTTV
- Has both Kodi and Jellyfin apps
- Plays DTS audio via kodi

Cons:
- No frame rate matching yet in any app
- Jellyfin won't do DTS
- Sometimes it gets stuck in HDR10 and has to be rebooted

it doesn't have anything to do with chromecast because I didn't have one and i got the offer.

I do use Roku and Fire TV stick 4k normally for watching YTTV so I wonder if that was the trigger. YTTV was pulled from Roku so this might be YTTV trying to be nice to folks with Roku devices.
