One of the hottest names earlier in the season, and still the owner of the longest home run this season, Yermin Mercedes is retiring from baseball "for awhile" at the age of 28.

Home Run

He had been demoted to Triple A, where he was hitting .298 in 15 games with four homers and 10 RBIs.

edit: He has returned

All of that… 2 periods, 2 commas and an apostrophe.

Was he the one that was hitting all those home runs early on?

I'm actually sad about this. He had a burger named after him, and Yerminator jerseys and tshirts were everywhere on the South Side.

When he got sent down, it was supposed to be for positional flexibility, which made sense at the time, considering the injuries the club had. The GM said he'd be back up eventually. Hope he reconsiders.

Yeah dude was on fire then went through a really bad slump that got him sent down. He has been raking in AAA and looked to be next in line to be called up again. So the timing is odd on this as he would have been an August call up.

I hate to see this. Sox fans really embraced him and he brought a lot of energy. Hope he rethinks this decision and not give up. I don’t know if he is just frustrated by being sent down to AAA or if is something personal.

By his post apologizing again to the media, fans, teammates, for his actions, it seems he is still bothered by what happened.

LOL

a 28 year old DH, who has little power(7 homers). he should be thanking God, that the Sox are still paying him to be everything a DH isn't.
