Heading to Austin at the end of July and staying at the Omni Barton Creek for 3 nights. Looking to do a little outdoor stuff (Lake Travis, etc?) and find a few good options for food/drinks.

Incredible BBQ and sides, and wasnt a bad line when I went.

Via 313 has some very very good Detroit Style pizza. Never had tried that style prior

Are you wanting to stay out that direction or fight your way downtown?

If you are staying at BC and want live music and dinner - one spot on southwest parkway Shore Raw Bar and Grill is a mix between Cajun Texan and Mexican and does Zydeco one night and Country the next night. Another spot out that direction for outdoor casual live music in Angels.

The thought in staying at BC is that it has some solid amenities (pools, spa, golf) and also that we’d avoid some of the downtown crowd.

Anyone familiar with The Oasis overlooking Lake Travis? It’s a huge place on a cliff overlooking the lake...the views are supposed to be amazing but they don’t take reservations.

The main restaurant can get really backed up. Food is definitely average... the view at sunset is fantastic.

If you don’t want to wait for a table, go to the brewery upstairs and to the right of the ‘main’ area. Never had to wait there, but you order from a smaller bar type menu. Self-service counter service instead of wait-staff. Food is okay, live music is usually really really good. And the view of the sunset is just as good as the main restaurant.

I agree with others about Blacks... there may be smaller more “hip” bbq choices, but Blacks is just as good as any of them without the wait. Also, if you go outside and one of the pit masters is working the pits, ask him what they do. I’ve had a pit master spend 20 minutes telling me the process that they cook their brisket and ribs. Not too many places will give you their trade secrets.

For something different, try Stanley’s Farmhouse Pizza and Craft Brewery. Good food, atmosphere and beer. Stanley’s Farmhouse Pizza

Heading there this week to visit a sibling that moved there a few months ago. Any good attractions where a lot of walking isn’t required? My parents both struggle to walk.

Food isn’t very good. Burgers and large nachos are solid but most people aren’t coming here for the food. But the views are fantastic and the drinks are decent. You’re pretty much only coming here for the scenery though, so if you’re only looking for good food, then skip the oasis. There is an upstairs to the oasis that has live music on the weekends, but it is your standard local cover bands.

If you do make it here then the closer you wait until sunset, the longer the lines will get. As mentioned, there is a brewery next door with the same exact views. It is actually attached to the Oasis and you just have to walk up another set of stairs to get there. If you wanna skip lines but experience the sunset over the lake, I’d suggest going eat a little earlier then walking to the brewery afterwards for a few drinks and getting the sunset there.

Or if you do have a long wait at the Oasis, you can walk to the brewery and have a few drinks while waiting. They will give you 7-10 minutes to get back to the restaurant once your table is ready before losing it, so you’ll have enough time to leave the brewery and go back to the restaurant. The brewery occasionally has bigger named Texas country bands playing there, so it will be closed to the public for the concert if they do have music scheduled that night. Make sure to check the music calendar first.

There is also a steakhouse across the main highway from Oasis that has solid views too called Steiner Ranch Steakhouse. It is pricier, but the food will be better although the view isn’t as good.

Seconded. You can start at the Barton Springs Park. Also, consider renting a boat for Lake Travis or getting out on a kayak or paddleboard on the Colorado River downtown
