Patio flooding question

Our back cement patio floods. We have about a 16” strip of rocks then edging where the front of the slab meets the lawn as a buffer. Before adding the buffer awhile back, grass wouldn’t grow in that space immediately in front the cement, which would create a hard mostly mud surface so there wasnt lush grass to soak up water in heavy rain.
The rock buffer helps but the “dead area” is now directly next to the rocks. Any ideas why I’d be having trouble with grass here? I’m in Acadiana, st. Augustine lawn.

Sounds like mine. Dogs marking after one another in the same spots as close to the patio as possible. No drainage so weeds take over and turn to mud because of traffic or standing water. I may do a french drain off to the side but I have thought of rocking it.

Heavy traffic for sure.

Saturated soil from runoff and traffic. Mine looks the same.
One solution would be an edge drain to try and help with the water.

We have a down spout in this same area that we’re talking about redirecting to a nearby bed.

In our case our dog doesn’t urinate in this area.

Standing water is causing dead grass. It used to pool next to your slab where the mud was and now it pools next to edging where mud is. Get water to drain away and grass will grow
