Never played it before...

Anyone have any thoughts on it?

I'm playing in the AM on Friday, June 18th, if anyone is bored and wants to join.

Not on the Gulf Coast of MS, no.

Honestly I played it last year and I thought it was a really nice course. Not sure if we just caught it when it was in prime shape with perfect weather but I felt like I was in the Deep South. I had low expectations going in however.

It’s way back in the woods with no houses so it’s kind of weird at first. It’s no LaTour but Fun course, staff was great, in really good condition. No complaints from our group. AM is the time because it gets backed up in the afternoon.

Odd comment. Grand bear is on an exponentially better piece of land than La Tour. Haven’t played in a few year so I can’t speak to condition.

My only comment to OP is to pay attention to the sign on hole 5 that tells you how far it is to the cross hazard off the tee. Anymore than a well struck 3 iron is going into it from the mortal tees

If you can hit all “9 windows” on command, it should not be a problem.

Great course. Can be tight on a few holes, less than driver off the tee is your friend.

Well, then it appears we're gonna have a problem.

Take a lot of time judging what to hit off the tees and the lines you take off the tees and into the greens. There is a lot of slopes that can kick you towards the hole or off the green. Was in great shape when I played it about a month ago and I'm sure it has gotten better with the warm temps, though they have had a lot of rain this week. Greens are much larger than they look from the fairway.

I played it a couple months ago. Greens were decent. Should be much better. Only a few had some brown spots. Played it from the tips and it is an absolute monster from back there. Worth the trip imo.

Played last week for the first time. Cool track but greens were not very good at all.

Know you will really enjoy it - the get some pointers from the PGA Head Professional Alan Martell before you go out that day. Please let everyone know the experience you have there because it is way better than the comments. Take your time on the long drive in to slow down because the staff, clubhouse, practice area, food, service, new carts, GPS and golf course are going to delight you. Be careful what you hit off the tee and keep the ball in the proper quadrant on the green and you will be fine.

The range is legit and so was the service, and the clubhouse is really cool. I shouldn't have downplayed those aspects of the experience. It was a really pretty course as well. I had just never been to a course in MS so I was expecting a complete dog

Course has dropped in the last 5 or so years. Still a decent track. Take 10 over the trees!
