For the love of God ,can we stop throwing 4yard routes on 3rd and 8 plus.

Im usually not one with a huge problem with playcalling in general ,but it's gotten ridiculous. Not sure who to blame though. Maybe it's the young qbs just hitting the open guy,but it could be helped by not running those routes at all on the play. If it's still pgc calling 3rd down and redzone then linehan needs to go.

two receivers were open on the shoe play. One in the middle about a yard deep of the first down marker (did have a FL player on him but still open) and one in the right deep flat.

It's two fold. Receivers have to get into their routes and come out of their breaks faster. QBs need to better understand down and distance

How do you equate throwing a 4 yard route with play calling? You think every receiver is only running 4 yard routes?

It's called throwing your receivers open sometimes based on matchups.

It's what Burrow did so well.

It's what a true fr QB is not ready to do yet.

I think people need to understand we're playing true freshmen QBs here and they arent always going to find an open downfield guy and will feel more comfortable taking underneath routes even in situations where it may seem silly like 3rd and long.

It's frustrating no doubt but we're talking about a true freshman making his first start and it was on the road against the #6 team. You have to expect silly things to happen on occasion, in the guise of "being safe".

The 1 thing we couldnt have against UF to pull that upset off was turnovers and we didn't have 1, and we won. Being +3 in that game on turnovers, shoe throwing or not, is the reason we won that game.

Every play you have a check down even in third downs. The play has multiple guys going for first downs and the thought is if all are Not open then you go to the check down and see if he can make a guy Miss for the first down. The problem is with a true freshman QB they usually are reading primary receiver and if it’s not open they are going straight to the check down. Eventually they will learn to work through entire progression but that is one thing that takes time and where the term “the game is slowing down for him” comes into play.

^^^this

Receivers were open downfield, but Max was checking down a lot. I do think with more experience, he'll be more effective seeing guys open up downfield.

They called those routes because they did not. Trust the freshman. Gave him an easy bailout. Btw how do you know what they had called... and how do you Know or not if Max Simply checked down to that receiver.

Whatever dumb comment

Now you know why O was so pissed at Finley against A&M
If it's not there you live to fight another day under the current circumstances
Finley forced it, gave up a pick six that prevented LSU from stealing that win.

I think LSU will open it up more against Ole Miss as their defense might be the worst they will see all season.
It will still be ball control since Ole Miss offense is pretty explosive, play keep away.

You might notice that Sean Peyton has also become a crappy play caller since Brees went down. Just because a play doesn’t work doesn’t mean it’s a bad call. Execution is the key. Yesterday, three times in a row they passed short of the marker on third down, just like folks complaining about our calls. Didn’t work for them either but I don’t hear anybody calling for Peyton’s job.
