PreEmergent complete, Treating with MSM, now what?

First off, thanks to everyone on this board for their help so far. You've provided great info and am actually excited to turn my yard around now, whereas before I hired someone or dreaded doing it myself.
I've treated with a pre emergent (Prodiamine) and laid out a blanket MSM/Surfactant to clear up spurge that had taken over much of my yard. I will continue to spot treat with MSM as needed, but it is handling the spurge well. Just wondering what/when the next step is? When do I need to fertilize, etc.

May be more of a personal preference, but I prefer to save MSM and celcius for summer as they are good high temperature herbs. I tend to use Image or a speedzone during winter. That way I don’t end up overdosing with MSM/celc.
Once the back end of winter rolls around (febuary’ish) put down another blanket of pre-emerge

Same here. I enjoy it now. I think it's a combination of knowledge gained here and me turning into an old man.

I pretty much do what jimbeam does in regards to changing herbicides in fall and winter, but nothing wrong with what you are doing. Re-apply pre-emergent a little before soil temps rise to 55 F - temp at which crabgrass seeds germinate, that’s usually about mid-Feb (BR area).
Fertilize - I think a decent rule of thumb is after you’ve had to cut your grass twice, and that means cutting grass, not cutting weeds that escaped pre-emergent application to make the lawn look nice. That signifies the new root system that the grass has generated during spring green up is sufficiently developed to uptake nutrients. Again for me in the BR area that’s around April 1, in areas south that might be mid-March.

I love Trimec from late fall to late winter. I usually put potash down in the winter as well. Just depends on what you feel like doing and spending.

quote:Is the Image for centipede lawns weaker than regular Image? I used it a few weeks ago and it barely did anything (multiple diff broadleaf weeds). I screwed up the mixture initially and sprayed it about 10x stronger than recommended in one area and it only turned some of the weeks slightly yellow, didn't kill them.

Smoked the dollar weed and VBW I had within about a week. I’ve had great luck with it over the years

Do you use the purple cap for southern lawns, or the green cap general use one?

Would you recommend this product for a newer lawn, laid in early September?
Seems to be doing good. Have a few spots of clover and dollar weed.

Lawn laid in early Sept, you’ll be fine to spot spray clover and dollarweed.
You can use the Image for Southern Lawns to control those weeds.
Personally, I use a mixture of Fertilome Weed Free Zone + Atrazine + surfactant (spreader-sticker). Weed Free Zone has a formulation similar to Image for Southern Lawns - both are a mixture of several herbicides.
The surfactant is important to get good absorption of the herbicide into waxy leaf plants like dollarweed.
For spot spraying, vs whole lawn spraying, I mix the formulation in a 1 gallon of water.

Thanks Fellas, will grab some Southern Lawn for spot spraying during these down months, instead of MSM. Is it effective on Spurge?
Edit: I see now that it is effective for Spurge.
