Because, in part, it's going to be a hit piece questioning the "logic" of playing college football during a "pandemic". I sincerely doubt the narrative will be spun as it is absolutely fine to play. Does LSU really want that kind of exposure?

Don't believe me? Here's CBS's description of the episode:

quote:

"Gravel-voiced and Louisiana Cajun tough, Ed Orgeron got the head coach football job at LSU a few years ago and ran with it," reads the episode's description. "Now the Tigers are the national college champions, but can Coach O call the right plays to win in a pandemic?"

It will be like every other 60 minute episode. Starts out with a glowing "rags to riches" style profile of Ed. Will probably show scenes of Larose. His mother. The pride of the people there. Then venture into questions about whether it is "safe" to be playing football overlayed with fearmongering statistics.

Ed is at the top of his profession right now. And he got there without doing 60 minute episodes. There is no "need" to do this when you KNOW at least some portion of the media/population will use it for negative publicity. He no longer has to self-promote for legitimacy in the college football world. His actions..ie winning the national championship, Heisman trophy winning player, COY, speak for themselves. Let them.

Well it was pre recorded obviously, and that was before the announcement he made about most of the team getting covid

It says it's a profile of him . Maybe it will be just that and how the pandemic effects practice and games. Maybe it's more about the protocol.

I admire the fact you seem to have more faith in the media than I do. I don't think they necessarily have a personal ax to grind against O. But their ENTIRE business model is to create division. O can't tell anyone whether it is "safe" to play or not. Hell, the definition of "safe" is totally ambiguous. But you can bet dollars to donuts the piece will be used to "raise/pose questions" as to whether or not it is "safe." It won't strictly be a glowing biographical puff piece about O. Frankly, no one outside of LA really cares about that and that is not 60 minutes' editorial approach.

Also, they may not be able to ask O about his statement re: most of the team getting covid, but you can bet it will be inserted in the editorial. Just because the interview with O is already in the can, doesn't mean the episode can't be revised prior to air time.

People can have different opinions. And that's ok. But, IMO, it is an unnecessary thing for him to participate in.
