So I have a trip planned to fly out of NewO on Oct. 8th for a week. Should I go ahead and book now or wait until I am about 1.5 months out? Have always heard 1.5 months out is when you get the best prices, not sure if that is true or not.

It used to be about 5 months out for international and about 45 days out of domestic (not always, but that would be the estimate when I felt like I was getting the best deal), but with COVID and constantly changing fares, I would just book when you like the price. Most of the airlines are offering free cancellation with credit, so if you see the price go down, just cancel and use the credit to rebook at a lower price.

Create an alert in Google Flights for the flight you're interested in, and make the purchase if/when it drops to the price break you're looking for.
FYI - flights are trending up right now, not down.

Book now. Airlines are grasping at straws for any and all revenue

For the most part I'll agree, however there have been some awesome deals over the past week on southwest and american. Even delta seemed to have lowered their prices a bit.

To the OP, if you're comfortable with a price, book it. I just got christmas flights for $230 (seattle-ft. Lauderdale), thanksgiving for $175 (seattle-san fran/sacramento), and labor day for $200 (seattle-nola). In my book those are reasonable so if you see a price that looks good don't hesitate to book, plus if the price drops you can rebook at the lower price

Forgot to ask, where are you going and what dates? I can take a look around so you have a starting point

Cheapest is $318 roundtrip right now on delta, american, united, alaska, etc. I'd hold off on booking, there's roundtrips for $158 for Aug-Sept so I'd expect october to go way down.
