Need to get fit for a driver. Anyone been to both? Any pros or cons of each?

I just went and saw Joy and I’m not sure how I feel about it.

He kind of turned it into a lesson and I really just wanted to be fitted for a driver.

Really nice guy though and his facility is A+.

I just didn’t really click with him.

You may have a better experience than me.

At the end he really didn’t recommend anything either, my swing speed was fast and my transition so aggressive he wanted me to take a couple of lessons then come back. He said I obviously needed something extra stiff and heavy (70 grams or higher) he told me to just go buy something I could work with for a while then come back when more seasoned if I wanted something super high end.

After 2 hours I wasn’t really sure what just happened

But others loved him and swear by him, he’s worth checking out for sure.

I'm going to Bebu on Tuesday for a full bag fitting. I'll let you know how it goes.

Honestly, I may need this. I'm young, I swing fast, and hit a 8-10? year old driver with regular flex. I've probably conformed my swing to fit this club, but I know there's something better out there for me.

I feel like along with a new driver, I'll need a new swing to match it

I’ve used Bebu multiple times. Highly recommend him. He doesn’t try to just sell you the most expensive items. For my first full bag fitting he didn’t even recommend me changing my 3 year old driver at the time. He said he couldn’t justify me spending the money on something else that was marginally better.

That driver broke last week and went for a fitting. I’m waiting On the club to come in now.

I agree that he gives you more of a lesson, he will also book you for an hour and you will probably go 90 minutes. Facility top notch, I like his teaching style and swing thoughts but there is definitely a lesson component to it and you will hit 50+ balls easily

I've only been to Buddha, but I highly recommend him.

I'm going to Buddha this week as well for a full bag, but we'll just be adjusting the clubs I already have. They are hand me downs that were custom fit to the original owner so I want to get them adjusted to me.

Never done a fitting before so I'm pumped.

I’m also interested in getting my pre existing iron set “retro fitted”. I feel they may be too short. Let us all know how it goes!

Sorry it took so long to reply, but I'm picking up my clubs tomorrow. I wanted to wait until I got my clubs back and played a full round with them to see if the fitting was a success.

I'll follow up in a few days.

It will take more than one round with new clubs to really get a feel for them. Buddha is good but you still to learn how the shafts change your game.

I only had John Joy do a quick tweak on a Newport for me, so I can’t give a full run down on his service.

Here’s my experience with Buddha:

I went for a driver fitting and told him I was wide open. We spent a long time and did a lot of options and at the end, he told me I didn’t need a new driver head, but the shaft I had was wrong. He fit me into an Accra FX and was super thorough on explaining what and why. I’m still playing that shaft and head 3 years later and I’ve hit numerous other drivers and combos and nothing has been able to beat it on a launch monitor. At no point did I feel like he had an agenda or was pushing one manufacturer over another. He could’ve gotten hundreds more dollars out of me than he did, but he gave me straight dope.

I just went back and did a putter fitting with him and was equally as impressed.

I had one lesson with Buddha. As good as he is at club fitting, I got the feeling that his lessons are a little more geared toward kids. He knows what he is talking about, but it seems to be more things that worked for him in his swing rather than what would work for mine. He did rebuild my driver for me to help fit my swing a little better, and he is a great guy to work with, though.

I have no opinion on the other guy.

I’d go to Buddha again to tinker and play on his trackman but until he can beat me at golf I doubt I’ll take a lesson from him.

Reason I asked is I'm trying to find someone who teaches with a launch monitor. I put tons of spin on the ball and inconsistent with irons.

I would imagine any of the decent name teachers are using a launch monitor; too much data to not use one when teaching.

Edit: I would go to John Joy for lessons and Buddha for fittings. I don't know why he started giving lessons he is not a member of the PGA by the way. Amazing fitter though.
