Headed to Orange Beach last week of July. Plan on fishing while we are there - haven’t fished that area in years on my own. Been on a few charters out of there in years past but never really fished there on my own. Anyone have any recommendations on places to go and what bait or setup to use? I was thinking surf fishing on the beach and definitely wanted to go to the Gulf Shores pier. Maybe even renting a boat and looking for some marsh areas - but again - no clue where to go or what to use.

Not sure how things are right now, but I've had success along the Intracoastal near Oyster Bay and in the Bon Secour river. You'd need a boat to hit those places.

Frith's is a good bait shop in Gulf Shores and everybody and everything seems to like live shrimp. I have caught a variety of fish in the Intracoastal using cut bait. Just depends on what's swimming through.

I see people fishing under the bridge at Perdido Pass a lot and I see people fishing around the public launch under the AL 59 bridge coming into Gulf Shores. The jetties at Perdido Pass is another option.

I've never done it, but I have talked to people who swear by going to Mobile Point and spending the night fishing. I think they parked at the boat launch there at Ft. Morgan, then hiked around to the point.

I fished out there in the surf in front of tradewinds. Used fish bites on pompano rigs. Caught a ton of fish. 5 pompano in one day.

Try fishing in the surf with a small Carolina rig & small pieces of shrimp for nice whitings.
Have been doing this for years in GS.

Where to put in on little lagoon for wading?

If surf is flat enough you could wade there. 1/8-1/4oz jig head with brown gulp shrimp. You’ll catch flounder if the tides are moving. I normally caught in waist deep water casting outward jigging slowly along bottom.

I’ve caught at turquoise and further down in gulf shores using what I described in August and October.

Thanks everyone - I’ll see what I can do next month down there.
