Ok cool. In my normal mode playthrough I pretty much just spammed attacks and never guarded until that fight and it kicked my arse for like 45 minutes haha.
I am much more cautious now, only thing that worries me is that it’s 1v1 and I feel like I always get fricked by something when I absolutely have to get a heal off.
Both my elemental materias are max so that is good news.

Bought this the other day and I’m enjoying it.
Barely into the game.
Some of the fights do seem to drag on a bit though.

There are some beyond bad ones.
Hell house fricking sucks, but it at least can end relatively quickly if you figure out what to do.
Only other fight I despised was the tank thing near the end with Barrett and Aerith. I think I legitimately took like 40 minutes on that one.

lol I mean I’ve beaten it.
Got to Rufus last night and maybe landed four attacks before he destroyed me. It was embarrassing.

yeah that was directed at Scruffy
i still have no desire to go back and play on Hard. thinking about the trainyard and the robotic hands and the chapter after the platedrop where you're just backtracking everywhere...*shudders*

Yea, I figured that was the case.
Also, Barret is a dick.

I’m enjoying it, but it’s almost certainly because I don’t feel like starting a new game

Not a fan of the fighting system.
Dodge doesn’t dodge attacks. It is essentially just a distance closer.
I’m enjoying the game, but I think that the fighting system is its weakest part.
Should have chosen the turn-based system.

He is a dick in the original too.
It's not until he has to face his past (Corel) that he softens.

Beat the game on hard finally.
Had a lot of fun on the final chapter. Was a total shitshow in regards to healing and using revive
Wiped like four times at Sephiroth, but it was a good feeling when I finally took him down.
Idk what it is, but the combat, especially on HM, is just so enjoyable. The constant shuffling of Materia and figuring out what works is very fulfilling once you find the combinations you need. I honestly can’t get enough of it. I wish there was some more end game, but unfortunately I’ve beaten every boss the game has to offer.

I don’t experience this with anyone really aside Barrett. Speed plays a factor in this and a lot of times it’s better to just block the attack.

Based on the current landscape of social media, FF7 Remake Barrett IRL would have more followers than Barack Obama.

So I really enjoyed the FF7R, so much that I played it on hard and got the platinum. Now I’m playing through the original FF7 on switch (first time). While it’s great and I can see why it’s beloved, it’s really making me appreciate the remake even more. Just adds so much more depth to all the characters than in the original. Obviously things were limited with the technology back then but adding to Avalanche, Hojo, Shinra crew, Turks, etc. is really gonna be good for the future installments. So many of these character are used so briefly in the original I think they did an outstanding job expanding the story.
Getting close to finishing the original and then I’m gonna explore some of the other FF7 media.

I'm looking forward to see how John Eric Bentley portrays the Corel/Dyne section of part 2.
For those who didn't play the original, the reason Barret hates Shinra so much is because of something he says during Chapter 16 in the Remake. ("I even bought in to their bullshite")
He was the loudest advocate for Shinra putting a Mako reactor in their coal-mining town. His best friend Dyne was the one speaking out against it and Barret was the deciding vote. When an accident happened because of Shinra cutting corners on the reactor, Shinra blamed the citizens of Corel and Scarlet set the town on fire.
As a result, Myrna Wallace (Barret's wife) and Eleanor (Dyne's wife) perished in the fire. While trying to evacuate the survivors, Dyne and Barret were fired upon by Shinra forces. As Barret was holding Dyne over a ledge, gunfire destroyed both Barret's right arm and Dyne's left arm, causing Dyne to fall off the cliff. Marlene, Dyne's infant daughter, was eventually found by Barret and raised as his own.
Barret blames himself for every death that happened in Corel.
