This is a good article about little Brady, Texas and KNEL 95.3 has become known around the country and even overseas for their "Hillbilly Hits" program and promoting traditional concerts. Some of the old acts have even moved to the town. LINK

quote:

Sturdy and youthful-looking, clad in shorts and a T-shirt, the 49-year-old deejay has overseen the program every week since 1989. The show he started as a teenager more than thirty years ago continues to be a world away from the sounds whirring on contemporary country radio: it focuses exclusively on playing listener requests for traditional country songs by the likes of George Jones, Patsy Cline, and Bob Wills. For the show, Pitcox frequently digs into his massive catalog of 3,000 CDs, several thousand 45 rpm records and MP3s, and more than 10,000 vinyl records to “find more obscure stuff,” he says. “Maybe something they’ve never heard before.”

I wrote the station to confirm how to listen, and they gave me this info:

"Hillbilly Hits" airs live on Thursday nights from 6-10 pm, with a replay of the Thursday night program on Saturday night from 6-10pm.

The program is streamed through the Station website – knelradio.com. It is also available through the Tune-In app and is streamed though Alexa as KNEL-FM.

I drive through Brady to and from my lease. Found that station last year. Yet another reason I'd like to move around there.

According to the Texas Secretary of State, more than 82 percent of McCulloch County residents voted for Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, and nearly 83 percent of residents are white.
This was very important to know in an article about music.

It's an article about the town too and the main person in the article, Tracy Pitcox, even says it's a very conservative town.

Anyone else open up the thread thinking about Luchenback and expecting an interview from the mayor Hondo Crouch?
