Are seriously underrated. I would put their musical talents even with the other bands of their era.

The “Thank You” record is badass

Purple is a perfect album. Weiland is in my top 5 frontman for sure.

Saw them with Weiland around 10 years back (2011?) at the Hard Rock in Biloxi, and they were amazing. I wasn’t a fan before that and didn’t really know their music, but I loved Weiland with Velvet Revolver. Was in the mood for a concert, saw STP was playing at Hard Rock, and just checked youtube to see what they sang. It was a “I didn’t realize they sang that” kind of thing. For an inexpensive/great concert venue like Hard Rock, I’ll go see a band if I can find around 4 or more songs that I like (whereas I have to really be into a band to shell out $100 or more for an arena concert). My youtube search of STP passed the “4 song” test, so I decided to check them out.

It ended up being one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. I’m an ‘80s/early ‘90s metal guy, and I’ve been to a lot of concerts. Even though STP wasn’t really my style, I enjoyed the hell out of it. Weiland was just amazing. The place was packed, shoulder to shoulder near the front where we were, and the crowd was just bouncing in rhythm. You could feel the floor moving. So many people singing along. The crowd just went apeshite when Weiland would bust out the bullhorn. I’ve seen at least a couple dozen shows at the Hard Rock, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a crowd more into a concert than that night. It was probably the most surprised I’ve ever been as far as how much I enjoyed the concert. Right when I got home, I ordered an STP greatest hits CD on Amazon and lwore that fricker out.

They're great...but they'll never be held in the same regard as Alice in Chains or Soundgarden. I wouldnt say under rated so much as underplayed, people who know STP love STP.

Weiland was a good front man. I think the album Shangri La De Da is severely underrated. Some know the first single 'Days Of The Week' but there's lots of gems on there

Hello It's Late
Video version is slightly different from album

It’s still amazing to me how much hate they got when “Core” came out. They were called flash in the pan Pearl Jam knock-offs by many. How did that turn out?

I liked them okay when they first came out and then kinda drifted from them a bit. I ended up coming back around to them around the No. 4 album because of "Down" and "Sour Girl", the latter of which has become one of my favorite songs. Finally got to see them at that River Center show a few years before Weiland died. They were so much better than I expected them to be.

I guess they'll always have a wannabe label on them to certain people but they've put out a helluva lot of damn good records (which I eventually backtracked to appreciate) so it's really a case of narrow minded preconceptions in those cases. I find it's best to judge their music as simply good creative hard rock as opposed to comparing them to grunge/alt bands that had a different artistic intent.

They had a distinctively Southern California sound to their music too.

I haven't listened to STP in a awhile and I randomly listened to that one yesterday. I've always felt Weiland was a great rock frontman.

Haven't listened to their new album yet, but did see them live last year with new vocalist, which went over very well. There was only one Weiland, but the band are still top notch musicians and new vocalist is not bad...

I'm upset I never got to see them live when Weiland was alive.

Is a helluva song. One of the greatest songs of the 1990s that nobody talks about.

Crazy thing, it is almost timeless.

Great band. Saw them a few times. The best was at State Palace Theater back in 2000. Right when #4 came out and Weiland had just come back from rehab.

That show was incredible. Had pit tickets. They killed it. Weiland was mesmerizing. The best show I've ever seen.
