Confining yourself to booking travel through Chase increases your traveling costs.

Based on what data? If you use the portal, you’re getting competitive rates. They’re not always the rock bottom lowest, but they’re definitely not marked up in any significant way. I buy 4-6 tickets a year, 2-3 international, and I’ve not seen any significant markup via the portal over the past three years of using it (and I always check google flights and directly shop the airlines too). Sometimes, using the portal gets best value.....other times, transferring the UR points to an airline frequent flyer program for a discounted award ticket yields best value. Airline pricing is so fluid that any blanket statements like “portal is more expensive” can easily be disproven again and again.

Again, OP may not need a travel optimized card, but CSR is great for frequent travelers.

Amex Blue Cash Preferred. It's $95 per year, but you get 6% cash back at grocery stores(first $6000 in purchases) and streaming services, 3% on gas, taxis, Uber, etc., and 1% on everything else.

This card is hard to beat with a family of four spending a lot on groceries/gas. It's cash back and not rewards, but I easily ear enough to pay for the yearly fee and also get about half a month's worth of groceries.

For any other category of spending, I use the Sapphire Preferred. Not as generous rewards as the Reserve, but the fee is considerably lower and it often has very generous point bonus when you get it.

Based on using sapphire reserved myself. Flights and hotels are usually cheaper on google travel. Rental cars are always cheaper for me when I call rental company.

Like I said, for the op Csr is unlikely to be his best choice based on his posting history which I reviewed thoroughly.

It's a no brainer. 6% means you only need to use it to buy about $1600 in groceries over the year to pay for itself. I think I remember reading that you just have to be careful where you use it. Superstores like Walmart and Target don't count as "grocery" iirc.

Shopping for groceries at Walmart saves about 15-20% if you’re a brand name shopper compared to other grocery stores. If you’re willing to use Walmart’s excellent Value Brand, you’ll save a good 50-65% from brand names in other grocery stores, at least in my experience.

For me that card wouldn’t be worth it because I get most groceries at Walmart.

Walmart is almost always cheaper for dry commodities, but not necessarily for produce and meat. If you really want to get your grocery budget down look through local weekly and 3-day sales and make a list.

Usually, Walmart Neighborhood Grocery stores count as 6% but I think it all depends on the store. Super Walmart doesn't. Personally, I do almost all of my shopping here in BR at Albertsons, Roberts, Rouses, and Southside Produce depending on what's on sale. So for me the 6% works very well.

Not sure if these posts are serious, but CSR card is great if you travel even one trip a year. (1 decent size trip).

Earlier this year, I found $235 RT tickets from NY - Milan on google flights. They were also $235 on the chase portal (American airlines). Since the reserve has 1.5X point redemption through the portal, each RT ticket to Italy was under 16K chase points. I purchased 4 tickets for my family for 64K. That is an incredible value, and well worth the $150 fee for the card.

Came here to say this after reading some of the posts.

This is easily the best value card out there. The $150 net fee can easily be made up though getting TSA Precheck or taking advantage of the 1.5x points you can book through the UR site.

In addition, sometimes it is worth it to transfer the points to travel partners (not all the time, but worth looking into). I did a transfer to SW one time where it ended up being a 30-40% bonus on the points I used. ($100 worth of CSR points were actually worth like $140 when booking the SW ticket).

Also, you can take your other UR earning cards and transfer the points to your CSR account. So those bonus points you got using your Freedom, Freedom unlimited or Ink cards transfer and your points are worth more.

+1 on the Wells Fargo Propel. I created a spread sheet with the cash back %'s for each category formulated out for several different cards, then applied my annual spend on my previous card per category. Propel was ahead by a good margin compared to the rest of the cards. I factored in annual fees, cashback bonuses, etc.. and the Propel was ahead in all categories. The closest behind it was CapitalOne Double rewards I believe.
