I need a high rewards card for expenses of approximately $19,000 a year. The balance is paid off each month so interest isn’t a big deal. What are y’all finding out there right now? I’ve checked with the major institutions but can’t find anything more than 2% but that only lasts the first year.

If you do a lot of traveling then Chase sapphire reserve is a good one. 3% on travel and points have a 1.5 multiplier.

I switched from AMEX Platinum to CSR and I’m really happy with the rewards. However, the concierge with Chase is terrible compared to AMEX. 300 travel credit, 50k bonus points when I signed up, free pre check and the countless other perks make it worth the 450 annual fee(really only 150 because of travel credit).

Wells Fargo Propel for dining/travel without annual fee.

I have the old Chase ink. 5% on telephone/internet and (I believe) office supply stores.

Everything else is 1%.

I then transfer it over to my personal account with my Chase Sapphire card.

Works for me. I could go with the 2% Spark, but I feel I get better with the Chase UR.

Can you (easily) book delta flights with CSR?

I’ve got an Amex delta platinum because I fly almost exclusively delta. If I switched to CSR, could I use the reward points for delta flights?

No Delta isn't a transfer partner.

I'm not sure if there are any work arounds (transfer here, then transfer there) but no definitely not easily.

Sapphire reserve is not a good investment unless you spend an absurd amount on travel. $450 a year?

You clearly aren’t answering this guys question but instead trying to subtly brag that either you spend more than $10,000 on flights a year and thus the reserve is a good investment, or are a moron willing to burn money just to say you have a particular credit card.

Either way, the sapphire reserve is in no way a good idea for someone with total annual expenses of 18,000.

You might want to do several cards.
Chase amazon for amazon purchases gives you 5%

Honestly as I thought about this to really maximize your points back you need to say how your 18000 breaks down.

For a small fee I will do a forensic evaluation and give you the best possible assortment of cards

Now for 18,000 a year you’re only looking at a max of $900 back but more likely 200-300 back. With that, I would spare the worry and just get a free card that gives you 1.5 - 2% back on all purchases so you don’t become obsessed over saving $50-100 a year and frantically decide which card to use at a certain establishment.

When you start spending 6 figs a year then forensics is a good investment

We spend roughly the same and just switched our primary card to the Amex Blue Cash Preferred. It's $95 per year, but you get 6% cash back at grocery stores(first $6000 in purchases) and streaming services, 3% on gas, taxis, Uber, etc., and 1% on everything else. You also get a bonus $300 cash back after you spend $1000 on it.

It may not be worth it after the first year, but it'll likely work for us.

I use this card for the categories listed above and Capital one venture that is 2% cash back for everything else.

Re: CSR, the fee is $450, but you get $300 as a travel credit, so net fee is $150. CSR has a boatload of travel benefits, ranging from supplemental rental car insurance to trip interruption and cancellation insurance, to travel medical ins. It also covers the fee for Global Entry/TSAPre once every 5 years. It may not be the best card for OP, but it’s a good travel card for anyone regularly leaving the country....even if they’re not spending $10k a year on flights.

Quoting $450 a year as the fee for Sapphire Reserve, then positioning yourself as an expert with your offer to do a forensic evaluation? Give me a friggin break.

$450 is the fee.
Yes, you get 300 in travel rewards, but anyone wise with money doesn’t spend money to get a reward or gift card.

It’s a good card for a very select type of consumer who travels a ton. Make no mistake, chase pushes it hard not because most of its users do well with it. My large stake in Chase stock (thanks LSURussian) appreciates you pushing the card though.

The $300 is a statement credit for travel already booked/taken, which means you're not spending additional money to get that reward. If you're suggesting that the initial $300 in travel needed to make good on the travel credit is "additional spending", I'd guess less than 1% of people who even know that Chase Sapphire Reserve exists spend less than $300 in travel a year.

So either you don't understand how the $300 is applied or you're focusing on a situation that will almost never happen. I use the CSR but I don't feel strongly about whether OP should. I just think the pros and cons of the card should be accurately communicated, especially from someone who is positioning themselves as somewhat of an expert on the matter.

You do if you get at least 1/3 discount on airfare and hotels booked through their travel service and use points.

Those that actually are wise with their money analyze the cost of the card vs expected travel to ensure the card at least pays for itself. Those that think they are wise with their money just stop at the $450 cost and do no further analysis.

Confining yourself to booking travel through Chase increases your traveling costs.

I have found the opposite is true. I have saved money. Before booking, I price compare with other travel sites or direct with the airline or hotel. I think the chase travel service is run by Expedia or some similar service.
