Wife and I are going first week of September for our anniversary. A night away from our kids and a day of inshore fishing. Looks really nice and very friendly on the phone, just wondering if anyone has been before and had any tips.

One of my best friends is the owner. They have a great set up. I don’t believe there is a nicer lodge in Venice. The look over the marsh and river on the upper back porch in the evening is spectacular. Food is great and fishing is great. You and your wife will love it! No financial interest by the way, just watched Raymond and his family build the place from a run down antebellum home that was hammered by Katrina.

I've been...no complaints. Was on a business retreat with 3 other guys. We had the whole place to ourselves. Not sure if I would have enjoyed it as much if there were other people there. It's just a single house. It's big, but still. Owner took us fishing...it was good. He worked hard in tough conditions to find a lot of action. Food was very good.

I've been twice for some cast and blast weekends. Its a nice place and the food was really good. Redfishing was off the charts when we went. Hope yall have a great time.

went twice with bigger group on bus. trip.
place is nice.
Food is "pretty good"... some of it wasn't quite my style.
i thought the organization of the trip was kind of poor with all of the different charter captains taking the individual groups out. A bit hectic... some captains didn't know their head from their arse. Some had live bait some didn't. the cleaning of the game was pretty poor and unorganized, they all acted like it was none of their responsibilities so to speak. Owner was a nice good guy by all fronts though.

Thanks y’all. I’ll jump this thread with a report afterwards. We are really looking forward to it.

Does the owner have his own boats for charter of does he contract it out?

The owner his two sons and his brother all use their own boats. They have two other boats that are owned by the lodge and run by captains. The other captains that work with them and use their own boats.

Thanks for the info fellas, pretty much spot on. The lodge is nice, didn’t blow me out of the water, as my wife said it needs a woman’s touch, but it was plenty nice and quiet. I will say that it’s setup for business entertainment, so small groups and couples are not what they target. Only clients were my wife and I and a guy from Georgia that brought his son to fish. The chef was lights out, great food and genuinely fun guy to hang around with. He shared his recipe for Cajun butter sauce on redfish and basically gave us a cooking class. Really nice guy and heck of a chef.
Now the fishing...incredible. We absolutely hammered the Reds. Guide was Dean, regular baw that worked up the road at the refinery. Dude knew how to fish. Lines in the water a little after 6 AM and the action was constant until we limited out at noon. We caught and released until we were slam out of shrimp. Ended the day with limits on reds, two big sheephead, huge flounder, 3 foot blacktip, and a lone speckled trout. Probably caught 50 damn catfish and ladyfish too.
We grabbed a shower when we got back and all the fish were cleaned, vacuum bagged and ready to go in my cooler so we could head out to catch the the game that evening in Baton Rouge. All in all great day.
It’s an amazing place to fish and could be a great small group lodge if they focused on that vice big groups...but I totally understand that’s where the money is. With that said, we had a blast and definitely look forward to heading to Venice again.

Great review. I saw someone above say the food wasn't great. It's one of the few setups that have an actual chef... not a cook. I found the food there to be incredible, and the chef was a great conversationalist.
The comments above about it needing a woman's touch is correct. It's a confusing decor. Some south Louisiana stuff, some victorian looking antiques, weird frilly stuff that doesn't belong in a camp, but I think they were trying to give it that old plantation home feel; they just missed the mark.
Honestly, the fishing and food were fantastic, but the decor was a topic of conversation when we left, which is pretty funny, considering it was just a bunch of dudes and me. It's legit odd, but everything else was on point. We fished with the owner's son, and he put the work in and got us a limit. In fact, everyone in our group got their limit of reds... they don't really do the trout.

Glad you had a good time it’s a bunch of good guys. I can remember taking Dean on one of his first duck hunts years ago. Great guy has really learned the area and become a great guide.
