Died from ALS with as much grace as possible. Was loving and cracking jokes to the end. I could have never dealt with it as long as he did. He gave us a love for sports, music, and laughter that will sustain us our whole lives. Not a day goes by I don’t miss his shenanigans and laugh.

I learned a lot about how NOT to parent from my dad. He was never around when I was growing up. He came around later in life when my brothers and I started having kids and became a decent grandparent.
I am what I am today inspire of and not because of my dad or mom for that matter.

He is gone now. But he lives in me every day. He taught me to get up, and go to work. When in doubt, work harder. Good honest hard work solves a lot of problems. Thanks for sitting in a fence row and shooting doves with me on Saturday afternoons. I learned a lot on those afternoons! Love from your oldest son.

I'll never have half the heart that my dad does. He's touched the lives of SO many people. When he dies, hundreds will mourn.
When I die, my boss will mourn the loss of my productivity. Maybe my wife will miss me for a few days.

The best and most intelligent man I’ve ever come across in my life. A West Point graduate and a veteran. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without him.

Wished I could. I would have loved to had a dad growing up. After my parents divorced when I was young my dad had nothing to do with me or my sisters. Really sucks never knowing what that is like. Never had a stepdad either.

Came from nothing. College dropout. Failed in multiple careers and business ventures. Eventually made the Forbes 400. Adopted me. Travelled the world and saw/did crazy things straight out of a hollywood script. Went to prison and lost everything. Eventually got cancer and died penniless.
The thing that always stuck with me is that he genuinely seemed happier those last few years (just spending time with mom, grandkids, cooking out) than he ever did when they had the private jets/yachts/mansions...

Never cussed, stopped drinking before I was born.
On his deathbed (from cancer) he and the opioids told me about his horrible experiences in 1945 on Okinawa.
He said he’d never told anyone but wanted one of his kids to know and he felt like I was the only one who could handle it.
I think it was kinda a deathbed mea culpa for the real and imagined issues he’d had with all of us kids.
I took his trust in sharing that with me as a compliment.

My great uncle fought on Okinawa. Perhaps he knew your pops. My dad wrote a short story about him. I'd link it but it would have my real name in it.

Go ahead.
The last name of “Guy” is pretty common.
