Am I crazy for thinking I can find something walkable to the beach for less than $750 total? With a bedroom?

We’ve seen some condos that are one room with a bed, pull out sofa, and bunk beds but nothing that’s a separate bedroom and living room. Mid June.

I think you could easily get that in Gulf Shores. Not sure about Destin/30-A.

I just did a quick search on VRBO in gulfshores for June 13th-16th and found quite a few that reach your criteria.

Most places on 30-A are week long rentals at that time.

Between Destin and PCB. Seaside, Seagrove Beach, Grayton Beach, Rosemary Beach, Blue Mt Beach...if you've heard of any of those.

This is the problem with rentals in that area now.

"$200/nt!!"
Total for 3 nights = $1100
The absurd cleaning fees, property fees, etc, etc have gotten so high.

As previously noted, it's the name for the highway that runs from Destin down to PCB. Used to be kind of exclusive and peaceful. In the last 15 years it has built up a lot more and can get crowded. Still no walmarts, fast food, and trashy stores on every other corner though.

OP, check the Brett Robinson website for their Phoenix properties in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. They aren't anything super nice, but it's clean and affordable.

When you go matters a great deal with pricing.

What days are you talking? If you are looking at Thurs, Friday, Saturday I'd say its not that likely but possible.

If you are talking Monday, Tues, Wed then its definitely doable.

I wouldn't even try right now. Wait til the weak of, call a big property manager like Ocean's Reef, Southern, or Resortquest and tell them what you want and your budget. They can make it happen last minute, if they have an opening its something or nothing.

I'll tell you what happened. It used to be property managers got 25-30% of rent. Well it got ultra competitive and companies started offering 15, 18, 20%. Well then they couldn't pay their bills. So then everyone started fee'ing guests to death.

As far as cleaning goes though, a good cleaner is making $40+ an hour. A crappy cleaner is making $20-30. Labor is high as hell with the economy good. Throw in Laundry costs, etc. it adds up fast.

The midwest has also discovered the Gulf Coast. In the early 2000s it was all southerners, now people from Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, etc. is very routine. That has driven up demand considerably.

Maybe $750 for three nights stay, but the booking fees, and cleaning charge, tax etc. will likely put you closer to $1000.

Oh, I don't doubt any of that.

Have noticed this in recent years for sure.

OP, try hotels.com Gulf Shores.

I thought it would show only hotels but a quick mid-June search showed tons of condo rooms available in your price range. I didn't go much further so don't know what type of fees are involved or how nice these condos are. Good luck!
