Grand Isle - Crabbing question

I’ve been to GI many times. Love fishing and crabbing in the surf running nets and setting traps.
We typically go in July-August when the crabs are running. But we are headed there next weekend for Memorial Day.
Last year a fishing guide was telling us that in the back of the island only reachable by boat there is a spot where crabs run year round. I feel confident i won’t catch any crabs on the beach this early, but would love to catch and boil some while there. Can anyone shed any light on this magic location?Point it out on a map, is it overnight traps or can we anchor the boat and run lines there, etc?
Any help would be appreciated!

Look on east end of island, people always leaving their traps unattended.

OP, I had ran crab nets around the small islands just to the north side of GI and done good. I don't do the surf crabbing. No matter what, there is no way of ever getting the dam sand out of the crabs there.

OP get some turkey necks for the nets, go hit one of the small islands north of the island like Beauregard. Those islands have bayous that cut through them. I’ve seen crabs swimming in and out of them when the tides rolling. Probably could get a hamper quote easily. You may get a lot of females. Just make sure they aren’t in the berry stage

Thanks. This is the information I was looking for. Should I run them around the bayou points of the island for moving water? It's shallow enough at points to anchor and get out and set the lines to run?
If tide is right, may be able to hook a few while running nets too

If you set up on the end of that cut through where the tide is falling out you should catch a few fish. theres definitely crabs to be caught there too. I've never got out to run lines but set some traps before

If you are coming from Bridgeside running east, there is an island on the north side right past where rocks end. Big opening in there where old barge sits. Big ol shallow flat and seem to produce year round.

Some fishing guide lied to you, crabs have a migration pattern like many other species. I have been pulling my trawl almost daily and I can tell you that the crabs are just now starting to show up on the back side of the island with one or two in the trawl a day. In another two weeks they may well be running good. You should watch where you set your traps as the inside shrimp season opens this coming Monday, unless you set your traps very close to obstructions that shrimpers avoid you are likely to loose some of your traps to shrimp nets.

Thanks for the replies and tips.
We are going to fish the barge island and beuaregard island and see if there is a way to drop a trap. But i'm pretty resolved to the fact that i'll be getting crabs from Carmadelles :)

I'm going to be down there near the end of June for a charter. Is it worth dropping a few traps in the surf or is that still too early in the summer?
