No doubt about the endless designs. I've always liked the brick pattern boards personally and I think that is what I'll try my hand at next. Any suggestions of what wood to use?

Spent a little too much money this pst weekend, but got most of what I needed to start building some stuff around the house. I’ve got a small shelf in my storage room, but it’s inadequate for cutting long boards or doing any type of wood work because of lack of ventilation/space for when dust starts flying.

So first thing I needed to get any projects off the ground was a work bench. Put this one together in a couple of hrs with some of my new toys. Not perfect, but stout and cheap. Materials were cheaper than the 4 casters, but it rolls and locks so I can bring my miter outside to cut if I need to. I’m gonna add a couple of other things to it this week.

eta: please ignore whatever the previous home owner has going on with the garage sensor. Just bought the house 2 weeks ago so I haven't gotten around to unfricking that one yet.

Well, first small project down almost completed. Definitely made some mistakes and could have been more time efficient, but it’s sturdy and square, so I’m good with it so far. Also, no matter how many times you square it up, at the end of the day construction grade lumber (pine in this instance) frickin sucks. Also, I’m getting some kinda rough ends on my cuts so I assume I should just go ahead and buy a different blade for me miter?

Also, going forward, should I add the “X” on each end like planned, or just leave as is?

The table top is pretty straight on the edges but should I go ahead and rip a straight edge with the skill saw before I finish it up?


Eta: something that was driving me crazy was how the 2x2 runners don’t have a straight edge so they leave a lot to be desired where they join up the with 2x4 legs. Is there any way to make this look better or square?

Good deal. I tell ya what though, I have a feeling this is going to be a fun side hobby. As aggravated as I got a few times, there’s some real satisfaction and peace with perfect cuts and joinery and I hope to improve my skills going forward. Hell, I almost want to rebuild the table because I know I could do a much better job if I had to re do it.

Just started working on this the other night... I had time to make the 3 boxes. I'll probably finish it up Thursday evening. Simple, but fun.
