I’m going to go purchase a new riding mower and have it narrowed down to the Cub Cadet XT1 and John Deere E100. What you got? I have about an acre to mow.

XT1 has EZT trans. XT2 has 2800 series trans. Much improved and more robust.

I was in the same boat a year ago and ended up with a JD X350.

I have a cub cadet 10 plus years old. I have gotten my money worth out of it.

If your buying from Lowes. Go to ebay and buy a 10% off coupon for a buck.

If you choose JD, stick to the Select Series, X300 line

Hustler Raptor zero turn, I mow one acre, love it. Has a welded/fabricated steel mower deck instead of stamped sheet metal, should last longer than I do. The other riding mowers I have owned were discarded because the decks rusted away, or the transmissions wore out even thought engines were still running fine. I would buy from a lawn equipment dealer instead of places like Lowes/ Homedepot as they will have on site parts and service.

I cut with one of two mowers. Lately first choice is a 96 craftsman lawn tractor with 42" deck. The other is an 81 snapper rear engine rider with 28" deck. Both are stamped steel decks, one 20 years old the other almost 40 years old. Neither are rusty. Transmissions in both work fine. Funny how some peoples experience is so different.
OP the JD is a smarter buy. Get the JD.

Funny you say this. I just sold a 20 year old Dixon with a stamped deck, no rust.
But upgraded to a Gravely with a fabricated deck. I guess that'll last longer than I do!

And do not buy the entry level cheapest model. go one step above it. Now, they all sell the cheap model to compete with the crap the Depot and Lowes are selling. They'll even tell you, "Its a POS but we have to offer it to compete with Lowes and Depot".

Do not buy one from the big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes, etc. Go to a dealership and buy a mid level mower. Pick one with a transmission the same as a commercial or upgraded from the consumer level mowers. The transmission is the heartbeat.

Man, I miss my Snapper. Wasn't pretty to look at but it sure cut some grass! If the transmission/shift lever hadn't locked up where you couldn't shift it..I'd still own it today.
Easiest lawnmower EVER to get to the blades. Flip it up..and on its end and you can easily get to those blades.
