Didn't the young vets approach get us here now!?

No, going all in on Young Vets every year did. The one year they didn't go all in they replenished the cupboard enough to trade for Boogie. Mixing it up and employing multiple team building methods would have done wonders. Still trade for Jrue but flip Gordon for Jared Dudley and a 1st. Don't trade for Tyreke and keep RoLo, Vasquez and the 1st you traded for Asik.

I'm talking about trading 2 1sts in a year where it's a supposedly weak draft and you probably have 4 1sts after trading with Boston. Maybe you don't trade 8 and 14 but 8 and 18 or 21 so you use 14. But if you don't tank and have 12 instead of 8, then 12 and 18 might not be enough, you might have to trade 3 of the 4 picks in that scenario of non tanking.

Also Aaron Gordon is just an off the top of my head example, but he's on a declining contract that was designed to be an attractive trade chip. He's another Middleton/Tobias Harris type of target that should definitely be a consideration if we trade picks for a useful player.

Gordon's contract is going to be so valuable. His final year (age 26) only pays him $16M. It's a thing of beauty. His defense has really picked up this year as he has been put in the Jrue role of guarding the best opposing player. I believe he is top 5 with Jrue in guarding iso plays. He's also seen a big jump in assists (16.3 ast%) this year and is shooting 41% from the corners.

Him and Jrue would beast together.

And once again, the question was posed as a means of having future flexibility

???????

quote:

Have the Pelicans already found their 3 man big rotation of the future?

quote:

This rotation has low key been the strength and backbone of the team in this post AD era.

quote:

The premise is that the team has enough right now to focus on other positions with their cap space and highest draft pick

quote:

I’m saying is it a disappointment if we focus on our backcourt and SF positions and leave the bigs mostly alone? Is it enough in the short term to be a playoff big rotation?

quote:

I’m looking at it as “are these three good enough to sneak us into the playoffs next year with a strong supporting cast?” My answer to that is “I think it’s possible”.

quote:

I said they're potentially serviceable enough to focus on other areas of the team and still remain competitive, and suggested locking them in on very team friendly deals if they'd go for it.

Right. I said here it was silly to suggest that those 3 would be good enough to maybe get the Pels in the playoffs next year.

Most posters disagreed with your thoughts on their potential, which still has you on the defensive. The only person who stopped talking hoops in that thread was you.

Gordon would be interesting in a lot of potential Pels contexts as a 3rd or 4th guy.

Tatum/Ingram + Holiday + Gordon is fun. Zion + Gordon really fun.

I wonder how much he could play at the 5 a la Draymond. Not sure he has the chops, but would be interesting, especially in a turbocharged system.

I clarified multiple times what I was saying, and you’re still cherry picking quotes to fit a narrative and refusing to even remotely discuss what I was actually suggesting. I don’t think it’s impossible for the team to make the playoffs with Jrue / Tatum and a surrounding cast that emphasizes the wing and guard positions. I specifically outlined a plan on how I’d try to go about it next year including free agent signings and draft selections . You of course did not bother to comment on that idea and instead kept harping on the same old nonsense and even bringing it into this thread. I’m defensive about being misrepresented no matter how many times I try to clarify what I was trying to get across. Guilty. Anyone would be if people kept putting words in your mouth that completely misrepresent the narrative you’re trying to outline.

Anybody just see the pregame huddle on FSNO? Cheick was leading it. Jrue wasn't totally paying attention but he was there. No Davis sighting.

Those quotes range from your 1st post to your last. If you dont like them, then stop repeating them throughout an entire thread. No one else's fault you kept writing them over and over again if they're not what you meant.

Almost no one disagrees with the idea of spending less on frontcourt players in 2019 and beyond. That's smart, modern team building 101

It's the spending on players that actually fit a perimeter focused team and can help that team win where almost everyone will (and did) say you are mistaken

There is no on the court basketball reason to believe that the Pels can roll with those 3 on a perimeter oriented roster and be competitive for a playoff spot in the west.

You can hope for that. Maybe it defies expectations and happens. But if the plan is go for the playoffs with the current big rotation, the Pels failed in hiring a new basketball braintrust.

Nice!

Too bad it mentions Solomon Hill on the card.
Otherwise it might be worth something in a few years.
