Heading to Dana point for a long weekend February 21-25. Flying in to la on Thursday and going to a laker game that night.
Looking for recommendations for the day in la and also for things to do in Dana that weekend. We have an air bnb on the beach. Thinking of maybe a day trip to San Diego since it looks to be only 1-2 hours away.

Also is there a lot of things to do around staples center? Worth heading there early and hanging around?

Stay at the Monarch Besch Resort

LA is kinda far from Dana Point with traffic.

Drive up the coast to Newport/Laguna instead

Eat at Mastros in Newport
Stacks Pancakes in Dana Pt
Tutor and Spunkys Deli
Shwack beach grill
Lupes for Mexican food
Raya at the Ritz

Take a day trip to Catalina from DP Harbor

View from brunch at Mt. Ada B&B in Catalina.

This is my suggestion for something to do during a day trip to Catalina from Dana Point. Wife said the lunch there was best experience of our 3 day weekend in LA/Orange County.

Stayed at the Ritz-Carlton in Laguna Beach. Go check out downtown Laguna. Play the monarch golf course. San Diego isn’t a far drive, we ate in the gas lamp district.

Salt Creek Grill in Dana Point used to be a cool bar and I assume it's still around. Javier's and Mastro's at Crystal Cove in Newport Coast (watch out for the hookers!). Bear Flag Fish Co. at Crystal Cove has great fish tacos and Wahoo's in Laguna Beach has decent ones. Las Brisas in Laguna has decent food with some great ocean views. Main Beach in Laguna is great for people-watching. Roof Top Bar in Laguna at Happy Hour should have some great Orange County scenery and some nice ocean views. The Montage Resort has one of the best spas anywhere but pricey.

If I had the option between driving and taking the train to San Diego I'm taking to train. But, if you don't mind driving it's an easy drive all the way down.
AZBadgerFan hit on a lot of good things in and around Laguna. If you want to switch it up there some things to do down in San Clemente & San Juan Capistrano.

Thanks for all the suggestions. First time on the west coast looking forward to the trip. Is Catalina island worth a day trip? We’re a group of early 30’s couples.

Most def hit up Catalina. We used to go over for Sunday-Funday parties all the time. We sang karaoke one night with the mayor's wife, she then proceeded to invite the whole bar back to their house for after party. Great times back then!

Just returned from Dana Point. Be sure and see the Dana Point Headlands Preserve Nature Trail at the top of the bluff. There is a restaurant named Cannons that is very good (try the Calamari) near the top of the bluff. Also, the pier at San Clemente is good for watching surfing. El Adobe restaurant in San Juan Capistrano is good also (Nixon used to eat there). Enjoy your visit.

Glad to hear El Adobe is still good. I used to eat there all the time when I lived out there 30 years ago.
