Flying into Denver in the middle of June for approximately 8 days with wife, kids 12 and 8. It will be our first time to Colorado and wanted to see and do as much as possible during that time. Any recommendations on must see, Best towns to stay? So far telluride and Colorado Springs are on the list and we need places for in between. We are all fairly active so light hiking is fine, we are looking st horse back, atv’s, Jeep rentals, etc.

Our plans are to rent car and start a road trip. Thoughts are to head west, spend possible two nights somewhere between Denver and telluride, couple nights in telluride, take different return trip to Denver that gives us a stop in Colorado Springs.

The other “plan” has heading south to Colorado Springs then on to telluride.

Thanks in advance!

Mt Evans is just outside of Denver and 14k'+ peak where you can drive all but the last 150'. It is a pretty cool ride to the top.

Also look into whitewater rafting. I think we used Performace Tours rafting, but there are a number of outfitters in different locations.

Wick, rafting ranked high in my list but was unsure of the level of rapids with an 8 year old. Did you have younger kids?

Yes, we ran some class 3 with my 7-year-old and he loved it.

Ourso is probably the prettiest town in Colorado as far as picturesque views go. It’s right next to Telluride on the map but a nice drive around the mountain to get there. Don’t miss it though.

Rent a 4 seat side x side or Jeep and drive it up Black Bear, Imogene, Ophir, Engineer, and Cinnamon passes. You’ll be rewarded with surreal views and memories that your kids will have for life. You can use the passes (old mining trails) to connect Telluride, Lake City, Silverton, Ouray, and Ophir which are all awesome mountain towns in the San Juans.

Don’t miss Mesa Verde either

Thanks to all...

That looks like a blast. What month are those pics from, where did your adventure start and did you use some sort or guide or just follow trails and signs??

That is from the middle of June, I was woken by snow a few days up there. I started all the way here in Florida. I used the Gaia app for my iPad for maps, I think I paid $20 for it but it is awesome. It has pretty much any trail or road on public lands on it and you can save the maps so you can use it without service. I’m sure that any of those rental places would have trail maps for you to use.

We also rented a Jeep from a place in Silverton and did the drive up to Clear Lake as well as the Alpine Loop in the same day.

The Animas Forks Ghost Town on the Alpine Loop is incredible
