Tech Board dads — what is the best value for a Video Camera?

I’m quickly realizing my 2 kids are growing like crazy and the couple hundred ~40 second videos on our iPhones isn’t the way to document their experiences or capture memories.
Anyone have a recommendation on a portable and reliable easy to use handheld video recorder?

use google images to backup all of your videos to open up space on your phone for more videos

I agree there is definitely a place for storage and use of phone videos. But I’m thinking more along the lines of beach trip.... visit to zoo.... vacation to Disney, etc...
Where I will have tons of long video to really document it. I’d like to keep that separate from my phone cache of videos

Id go with a GoPro or other similar "action" camera. Handheld video recorders are kind of obsolete these days.

This... from a standpoint of wanting to take it to the pool, beach, etc... getting an "action cam" that is capable of handling whatever environment you want to throw at it, it's tough to beat, and let's be honest... you're not making a pro-level film with any of it... you just want to capture the moments as best you can without spending a ton of time tinkering with shite to get it right.

If you want a traditional camcorder, I think Panasonic and Sony both make 4K versions.
I bought a Sony 4K before our first was born at the end of 2015 and it was under $1000. It sure they have bound to have dropped in price by then.
And tbh, while we have a ton of video from the first year, we hardly used it the second year. And I haven’t edited much of the video footage we do have. You REALLY need to make time to do that, which is hard with a toddler.

Just an opinion from someone who is also going through this...
If you buy a nice video camera, instead of a couple hundred 40 second videos on your phone, you'll have a couple hundred 40 second videos on your nice new video camera.
The thing to invest in is some video processing software to turn those couple hundred 40 second videos clips into 5 to 10 minute video compilations.
Our kids love watching our vacation videos, that are a bunch of 10-40 second clips of highlights put to some background music that they can watch on TV.
If you aren't doing anything with the videos on your phone, you won't do anything with the videos on your new video camera.
Just one opinion.
ETA: I saw you mentioned Disney. We have 3 disney videos from 3 different trips. If you have multiple kids, the last thing you want to do is to be carrying around extra gear that you don't absolutely need. Cell phone video cameras are ideal for stuff like this. Quality is great these days.
