My 6 plus is unbearably slow and glitchy. Is now a bad time to get an iPhone X?

I don’t know if I’ll be able to (because I use the phone for work) but should I try to wait until new phones are released this fall?

I haven’t really heard anything since it’s release, what’s the overall inpressions on the X vs the 8?

Thanks Tech Board!

Maybe you missed all the news about how Apple intentionally slows phones with older batteries. Basically the choice was a degraded battery causing unexpected crashes or slowing things down so that never happens. It's actually a reasonable plan they just didn't tell anybody about it or give users control.

A battery replacement could help your 6 plus get back to normal and because Apple looked bad the way they are doing battery replacement at a discounted rate of $29. The catch is you'll be without your phone for 3-5 days.

Sales are less than half of what was projected. We may see a price cut soon.

Next year is always a better time to get this year's hot model.

I just had an IPhone battery replace at the Mall and it only took a couple of hours. It was an IPhone 6 and on the $29 replacement program.

At the Apple Store? All the info on their website about the service says 3-5 days. I need to get mine replaced so that’s good to hear.

Buddy of mine recently had an issue with the internal speaker. Can't hear any calls unless his phone is on speaker. It's apparently not so rare that there aren't articles about it. The most useful suggestion was that the phone may be a lemon and should be brought in for service.

May at least be worth reading more into. I don't think it's a truly widespread issue, and Apple tends to offer good support, so it's probably no big deal at all.

I would say the X was a bad phone to get at any time, just because it's a new design in many ways. As noted earlier, your 6+ may have the widely publicized battery issue, which can be cheaply fixed. I would try to wait until fall, when all the new phones will sport the X features along with improvements to them.

Does Apple to this to other products that aren’t phones? All of a sudden last night my Apple device went dead and now won’t charge. Do they offer the same deal if we don’t have the phone?

That sounds like a very different issue. What Apple is doing with the phones is throttling the CPU if it detects a degraded battery. Think of it kind of like Low Power Mode. What you're describing sounds like a hardware issue. Either the cable, charging port or battery might be bad. The cable is the easiest thing to check, try using a different charging cable and see if you have the same issue.

Not only that, I've seen rumors suggesting the successor to the iPhone 8 will be an edge to edge LCD screen as opposed to the more expensive OLED screen in the X. So if the larger screen size was a reason someone was considering an X, they might be able to get that for the price of an 8 this fall.

The cable isn’t the problem. It charges my other device just fine. I don’t think it’s the charging port (though I did notice dust collects there easily and it might need to be cleaned). It was half charged last night when when I let it go to standby. Then then I wanted to use it an hour later it wouldn’t turn on.

My X is just OK. Moved up from a 6 and there isn’t that much different.

I have an 8 and it has been a solid phone. It’s not much different under the hood from the X. The biggest difference being the home button, screen, and camera.
