Not having Peat at LG really hurt our run game

I don't think he gets enough credit as a guard. He consistently makes holes. Just seems that the games he has to play tackle are the games we struggle establishing the run...granted him playing tackle means Amrstead is out, which only makes it worse.

Dear God, please keep Armstead healthy this post season!

Saints will have a tough choice to make with Armstead if he can't stay healthy, which is something he has never been able to do his entire career.

Insanely talented but unreliable.

You think they would trade him next season? Surely every other team is aware of how injury prone he is. I can't imagine us getting much value by trading him

The best ability is availability, and Terron is seriously lacking in that department.

That's been my feeling. When he's on the field, he's elite. But he has so much trouble staying healthy.

When Armstead is healthy and Peat's at LG, this is an elite O-line. When Peat has to move to LT with Kelemete we're still very good but seems like we lose a pass pro with Peat and a little run block beef with Kelemete.

I'm really hoping Armstead is good enough to go in the playoffs because I think the O-line/run game can mask a lot of our injured defensive depth.

IMO, no, they will just absorb the cost and hope it pans out. IIRC it would be a big cap hit to even cut him. Now maybe after next season if he is still injured half the year they might.

Good post, first, we need to stop this trade Armstead talk, if for no other reason than pure cap implications for the next 2 seasons. Now if Brees only plays 2 more seasons then you maybe think about it after the 2019 season if he can't stay healthy.

Second, yes he's had some injuries, but when on the field he is elite. You don't give up on a 26 year old OT with a big cap number, but a cap-friendly contract for the next 4 seasons. Now in 2 years if he is a 28 year old OT that can't stay on the field with a big contract and a much smaller cap number you make that move.

I agree you have to hope this off season he can get right.
Fingers crossed he can stay healthy for the playoff run cause without him this line is far from elite

Peat is a road grader at LG.

Absolutely, Peat is a road grader and cannot be faulted when he’s forced to play LT. He’s a very good Guard, and along with Warford and Unger, Ingram and Kamara have thrived. Armstead is good, but always injured. Draft a left tackle every year, and a Center to back up Unger. Ram is solid at RT, and I could see Strief returning as a quality backup! Kelemente has really impressed with his versatility this year. Getting rid of Lelito really seemed to spark his play!

I'm glad other people agree that Peat is a monster at LG. He seems to get shite on, I guess because he was drafted as LT and moved to guard, but it worked out. There's this video of him LEVELING JJ Watt. It's a video of JJ Watt shitting all over our O line and talking trash, and Peat comes out of nowhere and sends him airborne.

It's just time to either draft(mid round pick) or pick up a tackle in free agency, maybe we find a guy that can play RT and slide Ram over to left so Peat can stay at LG, he simply isn't suited for it

Peat can play LT well. The issue is the drop-off in run blocking at G when he slides over

I remember watching that 2 years ago. For all of Watt's arrogance and cocky attitude, he could dish it and take it. Some guys in the NFL would have reacted very poorly about that block.

But yeah, Peat is a very quiet mauler. Dude doesn't speak at all, but runs people over. Gentle Giant?

I gotta disagree. I've always been a strong defender of Peat, but he's truly average at tackle. He's still going to be a great run blocker at either place. The issue is, his strength is in a phone booth vs big, strong, slow uglies who he can manipulate and the fun part is he's just stronger than them. He cannot handle those athletic fast freaks as a LT who can bend.

That's probably true of most non-elite LTs, but its the same for Kelechi Osemele. He's a great guard, but he's an average LT. He can play both, but like Peat you rather them both play inside.

Yeah I like it. People who say he doesn't play with enough "meanness" need only see that clip. You don't just level JJ Watt like that without some ferocity
