Go-Pro Knockoff for Hunting/Fishing

Anyone have experience with non-GoPro brand cameras for hunting and fishing?
Know the other companies have been catching up for a while, but is it worth going with one of these rather than taking the plunge $$$ for GoPro? Just looking for something to keep in my pocket during hunting and fishing trips, one-touch start and stop type of thing
thanks for any input

I've never tried any of the knockoffs, but GoPro has a few "entry level" cameras. I have the Hero+. Got it for about $150. It's a pretty good camera. Don't know why, but it's much more expensive on amazon right now. However, there are some refurbs for about $115.

I have a gopro and honestly it's crap for hunting. No zoom feature is the biggest downfall. But if you shooting video (or game) super close, it'll be okay. Just too one dimensional in most cases.
Photo shows video I took. Killed doe at far end of plot. Only can see a faint blob fall

Hero 3 and 4s can be had for decent prices these days and are basically all the average user needs.
I’ve been using a Hero 3 silver ( model with Bluetooth and WiFi) and with HD at 30fps the videos have been all I really need.
Made several fishing videos for what it’s worth.

I've used a Drift Innovations Camera for about 4 years now and have been happy with it. Went with it over the GoPro at the time because it was able to zoom. It has a remote that I wear on my wrist with a blinking red or green light so I know if its recording or not. Having just a little zoom helps on duck hunts although the shots still appear farther than they really are.

You're right, especially used. You can get a used 3 in the $100 range, a used 4 around $175-200, and used 5s seem to go around $300. A ton of people buy them and don't hardly use them. If you go used though stick to eBay, seems most of the local for sale pages have people listing GoPros for practically what the paid 2-3 years ago.
If you're looking for something to film hunts though a traditional camera may be best, the GoPro has a ton of applications but the lack of zoom makes them almost useless to film far off things.

This is what I have and have ZERO complaints. And unlike GoPro, it has zoom feature.
Here's a video I took under water to see what a castnet looks like when it sinks. This was set at 720 resolution.
youtube video
ETA: I just watched the youtube video and it must lose resolution when it uploads, because it seems much clearer than that on the original.

I bought the Lightdow 4k wifi sport camera with remote control. Great find. Thanks
All the reviews on youtube and the web were great from a value standpoint. The gopro has a better picture quality out the box but a little filtering on imovie should make it about the same. Another great thing I learned is that gopro has no patent on any of the mounting ad ons so they're all universal.

I have a MGCool 4K camera that I bought on Amazon for $40. It's pretty cool. YI brand is a "GoPro killer".

I bought a 4K knockoff on Amazon for like 70$. And a huge accessory mount kit for 19$. The camera is Apeman brand. Look them up on YouTube there are tons of reviews. I film using the 1080p at 60fps.

Although rather expensive, Ribcage sells a modified GoPro that will take a wide range of manual lenses. I believe it's called Ribcage Backbone. It's a Canadian company.
