This whole series reminds me of why I HATE platforming. Everything else about the game in enjoyable, except for the fricking climbing.

I'm trying to work my way towards Uncharted 4 by playing through the Nathan Drake collection but I just can't bring myself to finish the second game (Among Thieves) because of how frustrating the game can be.

I enjoyed The Last of Us a lot better.

I got three hours into the collection on the first one and had to turn it off.

I enjoyed the story of each Uncharted game, so I was able to finish them all. But I do agree with you on the climbing part, it gets annoying real quick.

The door's locked? Let's climb the building and go through the roof. The entrance is blocked? Let's climb the side of the building to get in. There's no ladder to get up to the top of this rock wall? Well, let's just climb it.

That's basically how every problem is solved in the game. I wish there were more ways to solve them. Maybe blow up a door with explosives or something instead of climbing around it for once lol. Overall I enjoyed the series, but the constant climbing was a little too much

Playing the older ones is tough. At the time I am sure they were great.

I loved 4 then went back and played 1-3.

1 was very hard because there were piles of awkward camera angles and the controls weren't great at times.

2 was a HUGE improvement. The rare sequel being FAR better than the 1st game.

3 was rushed to cash in on the success of 2. The gameplay was fine but the story was pasted together set pieces that made almost no sense and the the villain sucked. I still enjoyed it but it was a letdown after 2.

4 was a blast and the haters can suck it. The story was fun, the characters were fun and the gameplay worked flawlessly.

And yes, Last of Us was better but Last of Us was better than 99% of games.

Very odd opinion, far outside the consensus. 2 is by far the best of all of them and it's not close.

They all sort of run together though.

There is absolutely nothing remarkable or interesting about the Uncharted series. The gameplay is completely stock. The games' focus is entirely on presentation and story.

That's the Naughty Dog way though. Even TLOU is all sizzle and no steak. At its core it's just standard survival horror game. It got all the praise it got for characters and story, not for its gameplay.

Half of every single level being walking/talking is a huge chore and that's all Naughty Dog games.

I like good characters and story just fine, but gameplay still trumps all in my book.

I found the gameplay to be above average to good.

Story and presentation are top notch.

I will take that over the reverse any day.

I don't think the gameplay is bad at all in these games, just very standard.

2 is my favorite for sure, then 4 and 3.

Top notch graphics and story/characters, really the only things I care about in a game.

2 and 4 are the best and Bruce Straley was director on both of those. Not 1 and 3.
He also was director on Last of Us.

People like to give Neil Druckmann all the publicity but I am worried about Naughty Dog now that Bruce has walked away.

Druckmann gets all the credit because TLOU was his idea based on his college concept and he wrote it, that's why he got all the awards for it and thus the pub.

He co-wrote UC4 and he's co-writing TLOU2.

Druckmann is a talent no doubt but there is more to those games than just the writing.

It can't be a coincidence that the 3 big games Bruce has been director on have been Naughty Dogs best.

i dont get this either though. sure, the production value is top notch, but the stories are predictable, cookie cutter treasure adventures. Blows my mind that Amy Hennig was the lead on them since she wrote the Legacy of Kain series, which has some of the best, deepest dialogue of all time. trying to appeal to mass market, I guess.

TLOU took a cookie cutter setting and excelled with the execution of its narrative. the story is well-told, the characters feel real, and it plays very well

maybe you had to play the uncharteds when they came out. I just didn't see it. I played TLOU before them and it was such a jarring downgrade that I couldn't get into them.

I hear Lost Legacy is very good. Its a bit shorter which appeals to me because I always felt the Uncharted games dragged on a bit.

I agree with it being a chore.

I never owned a PS until the PS4 and I tried to play the 1-3 after beating UC4. Just too much of a downgrade.

I'm kinda having the same issues with Rise of the Tomb Raider. I like the characters. The game mechanics of having to climb and climb and climb just gets a little old at times.
