I want to read about TR and eventually learn more about his work as a conservationist.

I never read any books about him, what books would you recommend and in what order?

Edmund Morris - the Rise of Teddy Roosevelt, Theodore Rex, and Colonel Roosevelt. Probably the definitive trilogy.

Also interested. Is that a trilogy that covers his life that should be read in order?

Yes. The Rise is about his life up until the Presidency; Theodore Rex is about the Presidency, and Colonel Roosevelt (haven't read that one yet) is about the post presidency. I highly recommend, they are engaging reads about a fascinating subject.

Reading The Rise of TR now.

I am convinced he is one of the greatest men ever to grace this earth. The man was truly incredible. Reading about his accomplishments before he even started in politics is amazing in itself

TR: The Last Romantic by HW Brands is comprehensive and a pretty good read.

The River of Doubt is a great book, imo.

After his humiliating election defeat in 1912, Roosevelt set his sights on the most punishing physical challenge he could find, the first descent of an unmapped, rapids-choked tributary of the Amazon. Together with his son Kermit and Brazil’s most famous explorer, Cândido Mariano da Silva Rondon, Roosevelt accomplished a feat so great that many at the time refused to believe it. In the process, he changed the map of the western hemisphere forever.

More about his conservation efforts. Extremely thick.

Read Theodore and Woodrow: How Two American Presidents Destroyed Constitutional Freedom by Judge Andrew Napolitano if you want to read the true story of how Theodore's presidency was the beginning of the end of constitutional law instead of the typical Teddy dick-sucking most people love to lick up.

Sounds like great academic works produced by real historians!

I can't help but think that someone who served as a high level judge and also as a law professor might actually have something important to say about the effects of Theodore's presidency, over say, someone from the typical academia circle-jerk.
