Okay I see all of the people saying he's terrible. But stats say otherwise. He was Top 15 every year and top 10 the past two in defense while at Louisville. So please explain why he's so bad?

he fielded statistically the worst defense has ever had in our history. He recruited low character guys (not that all teams don't, that's normal, but some of his were especially headcases) that ended up leaving and following grantham when pruitt came on. His playbook was ridiculously large..one of our DBs that went on to play in the NFL said in his rookie season that hsi NFL playbook was smaller and easier to digest than grantham's was. I have never, in my entire lifetime of watching UGA football, seen defenses so utterly unprepared and confused pre-snap. Every game, multiple times a game, guys are looking to the sideline, have their hands up, or just plain old dont' know wtf to do. He almost got into a fight with an opposing head ocahc after a game. Now that one I actually liked personally, but still.

He gave up 360 yards per game his last year here, can you show me a worse UGA defense?

Here's another point of comparison. This year in Mel's first year, we gave up 30 points twice this year. In Pruitt's 2 years here he gave up 30 points 8 times. In Willie martinez's 5 years here he allowed 30 points 16 times. In Brian VanGorder's 4 years here he allowed 30 points one single time.

In Grantham's 4 years here, he allowed 30 points 21 times. Under richt the other "worst" DC we had was willie martinez, who surrendered 30 16 times in 5 years...in one less year grantham managed to tack on 5 more times. His final season (the really bad one) we gave up 30 points EIGHT times! If you're giving up 30 points in 3/4 of your games, you're gonna have a bad time.

So Grantham's last season at UGA in which ya'll lost 12 players who had started off the 2012 defense (number 5 in the nation mind you) he gave up a ton more yards? Holee shite, I would've never known that was possible.

Not only that, most of the teams that ya'll gave up yards to were very good teams. The only one that wasn't? Vandy. In which you lost 31-27. Want to know why? Your offense was miserable. 221 total yards and 3 turnovers. I'll even throw in the Missouri loss for shits and giggles. You lost 41-26. Your offense had a ton of yards and moved the ball but had 4 turnovers in the loss. In any other games ya'll lost or had gave up a ton of points, it was against teams that no one could slow down all year.

So basically, your biggest criticism against him is that a team with very young, inexperienced players didn't play well against extremely talented, experienced offenses. And it seems your offense tended to have a ton of turnovers resulting in the loss of some of those games. But he's terrible.

I mean people do change and adapt. Maybe Grantham failing at UGA forced him to modify his defense? he may very well be a good hire.

both sides of the argument look ridiculous. he failed at UGA, and he did pretty well at UL. He'll probably be average at State

Scoring defense is all that matters.

Here are his last 4 years:

31st
39th
24th
79th (UGA)

Except for the UGA outlier, I'd venture to guess that a lot of defense coaches' stats look that way in the last 5 years with the influx of spread offenses.

That's a fair point. There's only one Dave Aranda and he ain't leaving Baton Rouge.

The rest of your options are a couple of notches below, but I think Grantham is a solid hire
