Shrimp prices...

I know some of you deal with some of the shrimp boat captains in SELA, but they seem higher than usual for this time of year. I've hit a couple docks in the dulac and lafitte area and still don't find good prices for the >30 counts. Any info on higher than normal prices or am I just wrong?

I noticed ours are up about $1.50 per pound right now. Seems like they should be stable or lower on price this time of year.

I think the catches have been way down this year...

Lots of diseased shrimp overseas causing their production to be way down, therefore our shrimpers are able to get a premium price

They are higher.
I bought some 31-35s- 36-40s for $2#. 2 days later I called my troller buddy to get more and he said he had to go up on his price to $2.75 because the dock went up. 20 years ago shrimp that size were $3#. As a consumer its not good but it is good for all my shrimping buddies.

Increased demand in domestic shrimp due to a decrease in foreign supply. Below average season is also aiding the inflated prices, especially at such a crucial time in the year with holidays around the corner.

I do on a daily basis. Lower diesal prices and contamination of farm raised has this season looking good. Could be some boats being built in the spring.

Shrimp are on the smaller side for this time of the year.

This is what I've been seeing. Sucks.
quote:Yeah I paid $2.40/lb for 31-40 ct. Ended up using most of it as bait shrimp .

Found some 20-25 ct IQF head on shrimp for $6/lb delivered. Looks like that's the route I'll be taking for now.

Try the farmers market on Saturday. There are two women that have 9-12 head on IQF for 7.00/lb, along with smaller

Another thing to realize is that shrimp prices were at an all time low for a good portion of the last 5-10 years. Imports were the cause of that.
I'm sure they will be back down once the imports start up again or when the catch gets better.
