Anyone watching and thinking of jumping in?
Down near 20 again, I know a group of you all bought in when it was in the high teens and sold off when it ran up to 23.
Anyone on the sidelines and waiting to jump in?

I have a decent little stash right now. I will jump in again if it gets under $20

Bought at 19, sold at 23. It would have to get back to 19 before I got back in again.

Where do you buy from? It just doesnt seem like there is enough of a margin to make any meaningful money with premiums and shipping eating up 1.50-2.00/oz.

I would guess most posters don't buy actual silver, but instead buy something like SLV, which is a silver trust. It matches the price of silver for the most part.

frick that. I buy silver. I bought at $22 but it was only 5 ounces. I am kind of picking it up here and there.

best place I found is Silver/Gold
If you get enough people to go in with you to total up to $2500 worth of Silver/gold, you get free shipping. Their prices seem to be the best as well
I have used APMEX before
Recently I used Silvertowne due to their free shipping on certain items. I bought a 1/4 gold maple from them with free shipping.
This site looks good but never tried another site
Generic indians, Silver Eagles, Maple leafs, Philharmonics are most of the styles I have gotten into

Anyone ever buy junk silver coins? or just the rounds, bars, etc.
Posted on 10/1/13 at 8:34 pm to chuckitdeep
I have some "junk" coins but rather buy 999 silver. But if the price is right....
my wedding ring I made from "junk silver"

Is there a reason why you like the .999 better? Just preference?
Posted on 10/1/13 at 9:13 pm to chuckitdeep
I like the 90% but prefer the 999. To me, later in time when I sell, I feel I can sell 999 easier. Probably not realy that much easier if at all easier to sell but I feel I can sell it at what silver is worth based on the weight I have. No calculating 90% of silver form the weight of lets say a quarter, dime, half dollar, etc. One ounce is what one ounce is going for. Easy calculation on my end and the buyers end. Seems kind of picky but that is only my preference, not written in stone. If I can get a good deal on 90% quarters, halves or what not then I would enjoy picking them up.

I have been collecting Morgan and Peace dollars. Nothing special, but all in good shape. Once I get 20 of each I am going to go after some CC Morgans. I also have a Bust Half Dollar from 1826.
I will get lucky every now and then at the bank when I pick up halves and get a 40% silver one.

I won't say how much I have, but I have tons of pre-1964 Quarters and Dimes and a good bit of Silver dollars, a majority of them being 1921s.
I plan on unloading a ton once silver gets back up above the $30 mark.

Umm, yeah, I guess that's what you would call it. Only for halves though. Whenever I am going to take money and put it into Savings, I get halves first then take them and deposit them.
My best find to date, a 1951 Franklin Half Dollar.
When I go through rolls, I can spot a silver one just by touch now it seems like. Definitely a different feel to them.
ETA: Halves have became scarce around here. I work in a downtown area with a lot of banks and will go bank to bank. One closed the downtown branch that used to always have them so they are harder for me to find now.

yeh silver coin has a different feel and look to them.
I always wanted to try the roll search. $500 box of halves and see what turns out. Maybe on a rainy day when not much is going on.
I wonder if you go to a car wash and put in a few 10 dolalr bills to get the quartes if there is any luck there?

Banks will order them for you but I know they have at least a minimum of $500. Apparently there were a few of us looking so they went ahead and ordered a box.
I have never, EVER, found a pre-1964 quarter, dime, etc., and I save all change and eventually take it to the bank. So I cannot speculate on the best way to find them.

I roll searched for about 2 months. I collected a handful of halves that were in the 1965-1970 date range from roll searching. Entertaining to say the least and I have gotten to know the bank tellers pretty well. Unfortunately the bank I spend the most time at has a manager who claims all the rare coins that they receive when he is in.
