Anyone got game?

quote:

The NBA D-League Iowa Energy are hosting a local basketball player tryout in New Orleans on Sunday, Sept. 15. The tryout will take place at Tulane University’s Hertz Center Practice Facility from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is $150 if submitted by Sept. 5 or $200 Sept. 6 and beyond or at the door.

These tryouts offer players an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of Energy management and coaching staff while they compete to earn an invite to the team’s training camp in November. The Energy have had a long history of discovering talented players at their open tryouts including guard Stefhon Hannah (2010-2011) and center Ben Strong (2011-2013). Multiple players from last year’s tryouts signed NBA D-League contracts based on their performances at Energy tryouts. Interested candidates are encouraged to pre-register as space is limited.

Date: Sunday, Sept. 15
Location: Tulane University Hertz Center Practice Facility, Ben Weiner Drive, New Orleans, LA 70118
Time: 10 a.m.–3 p.m. (doors open at 9 a.m.)
Fee: $150 if registered by Sept. 5 OR $200 Sept. 6 and beyond OR at door Credit card, cash, cashier's check or money order only (NO personal checks)
Regular Registration Deadline: Thursday, Sept. 5
Please visit www.IowaNBA.com for the registration packet. Questions: please call 515-564-8550.

Come on Benson, buy us out own team and put it somewhere on the Gulf Coast. Iowa is too far and we have to share with 4! Other teams.

The $200 entry fee will keep most of the people that aren't serious out.

Good ideas I've seen on another board:

The Baton Rougarous

and having 2 homes, splitting time between Biloxi and BR.

I wouldn't look for anything like that to happen before 2017 though. There currently isn't much benefit to having your own teams besides controlling the coaching staff. I suspect the next CBA changes, which should happen in 2017, will provide more benefits to having a DLeague team, like giving you exclusive rights to players you're developing.

I've played against some decent d league talent. Most of those guys were good, just not NBA good. Playing against them makes you really appreciate how good NBA players really are.

Don't teams who solely own a D League team already have that right? OKC, SAS, and Houston are a few teams that have been able to use their D League squads as AAA teams. Or are you talking about all the players on the D League roster, not just guys they drafted?

If the league is now subsidizing the SportVU camera tracking technology for all 30 teams, I would imagine they have something in mind for the D League in the next CBA.

There are no DLeague player rights unless the player is on your current roster and gets sent down.

quote:

How do D-Leaguers make the jump to the NBA?
A call-up occurs when a player is signed by an NBA team. An NBA team is allowed to sign any D-League player as long as they are eligible to play in the NBA under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). However, an NBA team cannot call-up a player whose draft rights are still held by another NBA team. A D-League player is usually signed to a 10-day contract, a short term contract which expires after 10 days. A player can only sign two 10-day contracts with the same team in one season. If the team wants to retain the player after the second 10-day contract expired, the team must sign the player for the remainder of the season.

For the time being the primary benefit of DLeauge ownership is access/control and having a place to develop coaching and front office talent. Running the Toros was one of the biggest things on Demps' resume. Demps himself said that he signed Squeaky because he helped him get the NO GM job.

I think they will make the DLeague more useful in the next CBA. But the camera technology was $100k per team, DLeague teams cost $5 million per year IIRC. I can't find where I read that, and I don't think it's all loss, but it's a much more significant investment than the camera technology.
