2011 BCS National Championship has to be #1 hands down.
That game ranks as the biggest "mystery" in LSU football history IMO.
However, all the Royal subjects might just forgive King Lester if the Prince Cameron hire works out like we all hope.

My #1 screw job memory is from LSU's 0-3 loss to #2 ranked, unbeaten Notre Dame in 1970. IMO, we had the game won, or at worst, a tie. Mac called a characteristically brilliant defensive game. But then came that really, really questionable "pass interference" call against LSU that put ND in position to make the winning FG. As hhstigerdad wrote in a thread on this topic back in 2010...

actually that's the one scenario where one conference could get three teams in BCS bowls, they talked about it quite a bit prior to the game

I knew about this game, but was too young to know what happened. I always heard it was a bad call on Casanova. LSU got some nice revenge the next year.

There ya go. If LSU beat Bama in that game Nobody would have said they were screwed. Sounds like a bunch of whining to me.

I was in grade school but remember this well. There was not an LSU player within 5 yards of the ND receiver and the flag came out after the play was over.
Really a bad deal...

According to my avid LSU Fan father, LSU was 'hosed' a number of times by the referees during the 1970s against Bear Bryant coached Bama teams with a single suspect referee call making the difference.
When we beat them in 2004, with that non Pass Interference call in the end zone my dad screamed 'just desserts. Now we need about 5 more of these to even things up.'

Yes they were. I am not so sure that LSU doesn't get creamed by Texas.
I am sure. They would NOT have. LSU set an NCAA record in 1969 for least rushing yards allowed per game: 39.6 yds/game. It would have been tough, but I think we could have beaten them.

But how many teams that LSU played used the wishbone/??? LOOK I think the '69 team is a top 5 LSU team EVER. But Texas and that wishbone would have given them fits.

It's both.
We play Bama every season. We beat them, it should've been over and done. That's why we have the regular season.
It's a screw job for us because we had to play an extra game while a team we had already beaten, on the road got to sit for over a month to get prepared and gets awarded a do over? That's garbage. But I'm not turning this into a 1/9 thread. Just answering the OP's question.
It screwed OSU because they were the next best team. Gundy didn't handle that right, IMO.
Enough said.

I have to say I agree wholeheartedly that Bama did not deserve to be in the 2011 BCS championship.
If you're honest with yourself though you realize that only Oklahoma State ( and maybe college football) got hosed in that situation.
LSU could have still won the game regardless of how fair or not it was that Bama was in it.( I think Les and company had enough time to game plan and rest. They were just beaten that night).
My number 1 then would have to be Auburn 2006 for all the reasons already mentioned. LSU's game calling could have been better,but this was an incredibly hard fought game on both sides.
In games like this one play or call can make the difference much less several highly questionable ones that seemed to all go against one team.
This one really made me question the ethics of the SEC.

Yep. and it very well could have cost LSU another possible shot at a NC. It definately cost LSU a shot at a SEC title.
