this. The relay did its job. I blame the programming/configuration, not the device.
Right
But even then you could argue that the configuration was correct and everything went exactly as it was supposed to
A brief outage is preferable to frying expensive equipment that takes a lot of time to replace

For an unpredictable short circuit/fault condition, sure, I agree.
For an overload condition, it could have been prevented with proper equipment selection/upgrades.

Sounds like the technicians that setup the relay had it at an incorrect setting and it couldn't handle the electric load.
What I don't get is why it took until the 3rd qtr for it to fail. Obviously the stadium has held multiple events and I'm sure they had the stadium at full electrical capacity the entire day, so what happened in the 3rd qtr that all of a sudden triggered more electric current.
Beyonces performance was ran off generators so that shouldn't be a factor.
ETA If I had to guess, the relay received a power surge from something unforseen either from the stadium or on entergy's side. I don't think this is the actual equipment's fault.

Wow, Entergy is incompetent? Whoever would have thunk it?

I also read the Superdome used more power in Aug/Sept football games than they did Super Bowl night.
