When we won the Super Bowl after the 2009 regular season, our leading RB was Pierre Thomas with 147 ATT/793 YD followed by Mike Bell at 172 ATT/654 YDS and Reggie Bush with 70 ATT/390 YDS and finally Lynell Hamilton with 35 ATT/125 YDS.

Look, I don't care who does the most or least running. I just want it to be effective. And I want it to be more than just a bullshite oh it's first down, so let's run thing. If it's 2nd and 2, RUN THE frickING BALL.

I think Ingram as a true feature back can evolve.

-Ivory's return as a RFA is questionable. it would take a 2nd Rd tag to keep him. They might not for cost and as a token of appreciation of him not grumbling for more reps when he might have deserved them.

-PT23's role is quite defined. He'll get 100 carries and catch 40-50 passes. I call him Screen Pass Master. He has two more years left on his team friendly contract and turns 29 this year.

-Sproles is the definition of role player. 50-75 carries but comes in a lot as a pure receiver- 161 catches in 2 yrs here. He also has two years on his contract and turns 30 this year.

So even with no Ivory there's 150 carries for Sproles+PT23. When the offense has been most effective ('09 & '11) they've averaged 450 carries. 375 attempts avg in '10 & '12. So, 450-150 still leaves 300 totes to spread around. There ya go.

I put in the RB Grades thread if Ingram's stats of his first two years were combined into one year's performance I don't think we would have seen any nega threads on him...

278 carries, 1078yds, 10 TDs

I'm witcha chad. Give the boy more totes, let him establish a little rhythm. IMO he would be much more likely to up his 3.9ypc. Those same 278 carries could move up to 1200-1300 yds.

I think some wish to see PT as a feature back but thats just not going to happen at this stage of his career. Most would be surprised that PT is almost 30 years old. Ingram (if he continues like the last half of year) is the future for now.
Sproles has his role as does PT.
Ivory is the one with the question mark for next year.

I agree.

Pierre Thomas, get on it.

Ingram and Ivory as back up. used in short yardage situations.

Sproles as a situational player.

Cadet on P squad just in case

Honestly, i like exactly how the offense is being run the way it is. Sean Payton is a very smart man and he knows exactly what he is doing. We have had the number 1 offense for many of the years that he has been here. We had the most yards in the history of the NFL doing it the way we do it last year.

Jut stop and think to yourself, do you really want to change the way that the saints run their beast of an offense?

I also think that the multiple runners keeps defenses confused an that helps out our real weapon-our passing game!

Yes.

I think it makes our offense more predictable when you bring certain guys in for certain situations.

Ingram
Sproles
Thomas
Ivory

Those are the choices if you want to do this. Ingram is not as good as the others, so he's out, Sproles is definitely a change of pace back, he's out.
That leaves Thomas and Ivory to get the bulk of the work, if 1 gets hurt, insert Ingram.

Ivory will be injured in 3 games. Brees was a tad bit off on that throw, but do you want another pick6 similar to the ATL game. Ivory can't block or catch very well, he's in it's a run most of the time. at least ingram can block, catch, and out of all 5 RB's we have him being on the field leads to the best numbers for playaction

This is pretty much what they should have been doing the last two years.

That's really what I don't understand about our running game. Thomas, Ingram, and Ivory are all downhill runners who need a couple carries to get them going, and they just don't get those down here... Sproles I understand having for a change of pace, but still, we need a feature back to really just get hot and stay in all game.

Ivory and Thomas don't need a bunch of carries to get going, apparently its only Ingram. And even then I don't see the evidence that its even true.
