Ivory- B, he was pretty good when he actually got a chance. Needs to bribe the coaches to give him more carries since his great production hasn't swayed them.
PT-B+. Not his best year, but almost never made mistakes.
Sproles B-. Too few carries and many drops this year but was really good otherwise.
Ingram-C for the year. Was awful for the first half but showed improvement in the second half of the year. Still managed to get the most carries despite being the least productive.

Ivory
Those are the choices if you want to do this. Ingram is not as good as the others, so he's out, Sproles is definitely a change of pace back, he's out.
That leaves Thomas and Ivory to get the bulk of the work, if 1 gets hurt, insert Ingram.
This is pretty much what they should have been doing the last two years.
Ingram will, but for reasons only known by the coaches.

At that point I would hope that Ingram has an Thomas Jones or Cedric Benson type career. Slow start then hits his stride as a workhorse. He's a similar type back as those guys so I hope we see the same type of career progression.
That's actually a great comparison for Ingram. I live near the Chicago area and have seen those two play quite a bit. Neither of those two backs could break tackles much but could get what the offensive line opened for them decent enough. Sadly, that's pretty much the realistic ceiling I see for Ingram at this point.

Drew has a higher play action comp% with MI than PT.
Just another factor in the coaches game planning.
Wow, I didn't know about this. MI is a star! :rotflmao:

It's been years since the Saints have run the ball well on offense. Years.
What about last year? 6th in the league in rushing.
The Saints seem to like to spread out the field and go shotgun on those short yardage plays. Maybe they should just try a more traditional I-formation. They were definitely killing the Falcons with that tonight.
I thought it was P.I. or illegal contact on that play too. The DB cornered the receiver to the sideline then bumped into him hard. The announcer made it sound like the cornerback was just getting into better position to knock down the ball but he was nowhere near the ball.
There was also a number of plays where P.I. could have been called b/c the defenders wrapped their off arm around the receivers so they could knock the ball down with their other arm.

6. Sproles going out of bounds before the 1st, led to punt
I'm glad someone else noticed that. Wtf, he's a running back, he's supposed to work for extra yards not go out of bounds like a QB.

not really a fair comparison since we had way more leads as well as more plays a game
Last year Ingram got an even greater proportion of the carries than this year. He was getting most of the carries on 1st and 2nd down early in the game so I would say it is a fair comparison.

The entire team will be glad to have CSP back, but especially PT. I'm not an Ingram hater, but it's killed me how much more he's seen the field lately.
Ingram was arguably even worse last year and he got almost 12 carries a game with CSP on the sideline. So I don't know what it is that's causing these Saints' coaches to give Ingram so many touches but sadly, CSP isn't immune either.

Ingram was drafted higher than Ivory, therefore deserves more playing time.
I'm just speculating about why the coaches would decide to bench Ivory for the first 7 games of the year and then still give Ingram the bulk of the carries once they finally start playing Ivory.
Give more carries to Ingram

We gave too many carries to PT. Also, Ingram was drafted higher than Ivory, therefore deserves more playing time. I don't care what the "stats" say.

Ingram brings a different dynamic to the offense. He's not as much of a receiver as Thomas, but he's a more powerful runner.
Can't say that I agree.
Keep upping that trade value Ingram :nana:
re: Anybody else think James Harden wont be so great as a main scorer?

If players were paid for flopping ability, Harden would be a max player.
Felix Jones is getting almost 5ypc for his career and decent receiving numbers too. so I wouldn't call him more of a bust than Ingram.
I wish he hadn't been so cautious while the game was getting out of hand. I thought he should have gone for it on some of those fourth and shorts around midfield. Our defense obviously wasn't getting the job done, so what did we have to lose?

He is a very consistent and reliable 2-3 yrd back. Deal with it. We dont have anyone better in short yardage situations. And did you see that play action bootleg. The whole frickin D bit on that. That play will come in handy this season.
Come on now, let's be fair to Ingram. He's averaged 4 yards per carry or better in 3 out of his 16 career games now.
I do agree that Ingram is most valuable as a decoy on play action plays. He can lull the DBs into relaxation by pretending to take the handout, running into a O-Lineman's back and falling over.
re: So if our O-line is underperforming in the run game, i want names!

I think yesterday had a lot to do with predictable playcalling. They should have had a few outside runs w/ PT or Ingram. It looked to me like TB's front 7 were squeezed inside to stop interior runs when those two were in.
Not saying he sucks but his overall rating is still negative on PFF because of his horrid pass rushing this year.
