Anyone else ever experience this?
Yesterday when I took my wife to dinner, I had a case of this, and I was wondering if I am the only one. Here's the situation:
About 6 pm, not very many people there yet. My waiter is responsible for my party of two and a party of four, the other waitress in the section has 4 tables. We sit down, about 5 - 10 minutes later the guy shows up to take our drink orders. Order our drinks and an appetizer, ask the guy about the specials / dishes we had in mind, he tells us "they're all good." OK, but not quite what I was looking for, we order anyways and go about our business. Meanwhile, the other waitress is flying around her tables, keeping drinks filled, offering suggestions, and smiling the whole time. Needless to say I was thinking at the end of the meal that I wish we were in her section. I know people have bad days, but our server just seemed very disinterested, especially by comparison.
How about anyone else?

Never.

ETA: Even when I'm getting bad service, I've never once looked at a server in another section, and imagined "what if?" I just wish I had better service.

Well, unless I'm at Hooter's, and I get stuck with the 6 mo. pregnant girl. In that case I always pine for the hotter server in some other section.

I know exactly what you mean. It probably happens to me just about every third time that I will go to dinner somewhere. I know that feeling, very much.

I usually nut-up and tell the manager that my server needs to spend some quality time in re-education. Then, I request the attentive server.

Don't care as long as I get what I want. People need to focus more on the person they're dining with and the reason they're there than on the server.

Unless they're outright rude and fricking up your meal dramatically, who gives a shite?

Happens to me all the time. Not with waiters though, I deal mostly with CPA's. The same principle applies, if you are incredibly busy doing stuff for other people on the job then you're doing well.

I agree with you, but a good server in my opinion can make your experience more pleasant. It wasn't that our server was bad except for the initial delay, and it didn't ruin my evening, but is it too much to ask to at least pretend you enjoy your job? Just seemed like he was going through the motions, whereas she seemed geniunely happy to help.

Same here and I am not very picky about my service as long as I get a couple refills. I don't usually ask waiters what to order either.

I always get stuck with the underage waitress that can't bring my beer to me.

Doesn't that mean you get two waitresses ? Is that a bad thing ?

This happens to me at the bank/DMV and other places with the snake line.

I watch them and hope I will the one that seems to care.

Mostly this is just out of boredom while standing in line.

Good example.
Of course if they all seem competent I usually hope for the cute one.
