With Howard leaving, do we get another player from the Portal if we choose to?

Absolutely.

CBK likes having depth and will bring in an experienced QB at some point

If he wants to replace Walker, he can do it with another 5 star QB with Sam Huard.

Don’t we need to fill 3-4 more spots?

As of 1-12-23 My third grade math says we have 79.

Room for six more.

38 on offense
37 on defense
4 on special teams.

Your third grade math is a lot better than most of the threads started here this month.

I've mostly lurked the last few years on here but MAN has this board been flooded with "the sky is falling" type negativity! Howard transferring is certainly not ideal, but I'm hopeful that means we're seeing some development of Nuss + Collins/Hurley putting pressure behind Howard.

I trust the staff evaluations for any remaining LB/DL/etc. for those remaining spots.

Lol. Problem with that is, I think I started a third of them.

Scotcho has a good idea on it as well as some others, too.

If Howard was as great as some of the posters think, then LSU’s coaching staff would not be letting him transfer. The staff knows something we fans do not know about Howard. It’s best to just think that this transfer may be what is best for Howard and also LSU’s football team. I say, “ good luck young man, go prove yourself to be a elite football player.”

I feel a lot better since the transfer portal means LSU should always be ok. We aren’t held hostage by recruits anymore.
I’m all in on Nuss after/during this year. He makes the games enjoyable when he’s in.

I think it was losing either Nuss or Howard and BK wanted Nuss. Assuming Nuss sticks, and he should, he will have a serious shot at a NC.

That could be a reasonable conclusion, but who knows if they did try to keep him aboard. Though I’d be on a similar wavelength as you, he probably saw the writing on the wall with Hurley incoming as well as more of Nussmeier, even if he sits out in 2023 and starts the following season. I’m of the thinking that it’s a mutually beneficial move, let Howard succeed elsewhere, possibly TCU, away from the conference, and LSU’s quarterback room isn’t as tense, in terms of speculation.
