I have friends from out of state that want to explore Cajun county. What are some good things to check out to give them the experience.

They definitely want to do a swamp tour so recs on that as well

TIA

Lakeview RV in Eunice. They have cabins and barn dances/bands on the weekends.

Go to DI's in Basile on a night they have live Cajun music and preferably during crawfish season.

I grew up in south Louisiana but live in NC now. I took my daughter down there for this same purpose last fall. ("You won't really know your mama unless you really understand where she's from.") One of the highlights was Vermilionville. We went on a Sunday afternoon because they have music/dancing then, but we really enjoyed the artisans and musicians who hang out in the buildings scattered throughout the property to discuss Cajun history and culture, etc. Highly recommend this as a stop for Cajun Country visitors.

Avery Island is good, especially when the weather is cooler.
Tabasco factory and the gardens.
Then catch a poboy at Bon Creole in New Iberia or Villagers Cafe in Maurice.
Then go over to Vermilionville.

Atchafalaya Basin Landing has good swamp tours. Pats restaurant is right down the levee for solid seafood.

Cafe Jefferson at Rip Van Winkle Gardens near Delcambre on Lake Peigneur. Tour the gardens and eat lunch. Food is excellent. The Little Big Cup in Arnaudville is another good out of the way restaurant.

If you hit Little big cup go to Teche brewery on the weekend. They have pizza and usually some entertainment.

Houma's House
Avery Island
Oak Alley
Evangeline statue
Airboat Tour

Other than that, it's all about showing them some great restaurants and finding some nights with good cajun/zydeco/swamp pop bands playing. Obviously, if you can somehow work in a small town food festival with a Wayne Toups concert, you're doing pretty well.

Do a walking tour of New Iberia's west side. Start on Anderson St. and take Field St. over to Hopkins to observe and take in the cultural experience.

J/K.

Check out Shadow's on the teche, Avery Island- Jungle Gardens and the Tabasco plant. Airboat tour of Lake Martin near St. Martinville. Konriko rice mill also.
