So they make us go on every one of their calls because we have a quicker response and we’re all EMT’s as well. At least we get to leave the patient with them. Rarely do you see an EMT or Paramedic do 10+ years. That’s a brutal job. New Orleans is a third world country when it comes to health care and people who take care of themselves. The stories I have are hardly believable.

Do you get a lot of crazy pussy being a male nurse or are you mostly an arse guy?

I have a cousin that was a EMT. After a few years he said frick it, if I'm going to do this crap I'm going to make big dollars. He took out massive student loans, went to med school, and today is a orthopedic surgeon.

You're welcome son. We were tough on the grads but the world needs tough.
We do the work nobody else in the neighborhood political swamp wants to do. We don't do it for recognition but your post is appreciated.

I had an interesting 5 years at New Orleans EMS, the calls eventually become routine enough to where half the watch was at one hospital and was told we were disturbingly nonchalant about the shootings being dispatched. The newer half of the watch would try and jump GSWs and stabbings, and the elder half was like "frick let em take it, let them clean that shite up".
The biggest takeaway I learned though is that people fricking suck, and fat fricks are some of the most entitled pieces of shite that steal oxygen

The average person has absolutely no idea how much bad shite happens in their city on any given day.

Funny,my time in ems was the exact opposite. I wanted to use it as a stepping stone to get into med school and instead it ruined me of wanting anything to do with the medical field

Surprising, as an EMT he makes about $15 an hour. Criminally underpaid. Meanwhile, McDonald's cashiers feel entitled to the same pay.

What was he doing with his money? Paramedics make mid 20’s an hour, plus all the OT they want.
Raising a very I'll child born with some health issues.
They sorted them out for the most part but years of surgeries put him in a hole. Wife needed to stay home to care for him until they got past it.

Several schools offer a paramedic to RN bridge program. This may be an option to look at. Travel nurses make bank. A buddy of mine did this and was making more than some travel nurses because his paramedic license gave him the opportunity to do some things that nurses could t so.
Another option is going the firefighter paramedic route. Most cities that run ALS fire departments and provide transport units can’t keep enough paramedics so they actually tend to pay ok. I think the top out pay for a non officer fire medic is between 70-90k a year working a 24 on 48 off schedule

Anything in the 20s per hour is not good money to raise a family on. It can be done, but that's living very basic with no room for frick ups.
Plus all the OT, is also not good for raising a family. The point of raising a family is to not spend time away earning OT. Secondly, if there is a desire/need to earn all the OT, then back to the first point, it's not good money to raise a family on.

Traveling you can make just as much as a traveling nurse though.
Whos paying EMT's $10,000-$12,000/week contract?
