Aside from talent/recruiting, what are the cornerstones of a successful CFB program?

Discipline - you can never let up with reps, practice, intensity, training, meetings, and film.
Insight - you have to put players in the best position to make plays based on film study, and you need to have some ability to predict what the other team will do when they play you.
Strength training - most of the 18 year old kids have a ton of physical potential to tap. There needs to be great emphasis on this. See number 1.
Chemistry/Culture - football and, more importantly, winning have to mean a lot to everyone you keep around the program. Distraction is a disease, and dissension destroys. Team players with team attitude who want to achieve excellence with their brothers. There has to be a heavy, heavy amount of this cameraderie based on shared sacrifice and goals.
What say you?

For many programs it’s Development. Being able to recruit a 2 star LB and have him become a RG or TE if he isn’t needed at LB. Understanding how to maximize a football player for wins.

Identifying the best players that fit what you’re trying to do skill set wise while also being unselfish team players that go to class and stay out of trouble.

Recruiting aside, Strength & Conditioning is #1 without question, especially as the practice evolves and innovates with sports science stuff and data.
Many college head coaches will say unequivocally that their most important assistant is their S&C coach. The S&C staff spend far and away more time with the players, especially in the offseason.
The two most important coaches that Saban has hired at Alabama were Scott Cochran and now the Indiana guys. You can recruit all the 4 and 5 stars you want, but you have to grow them in the weight room.

It is S&C and the discipline needed to excel at it. There have been plenty of teams with all the talent in the world on paper who get pushed all over the field by a stronger, more disciplined team.

That is probably why Wisconsin and Iowa are usually solid. Dantonio at his peak was great at developing guys. I have no idea how Michigan couldn't run against Rutgers, but did what they did on Saturday. There must have been some technique things they caught.

Money has always been important but in this day and age it is even more important.
Money buys things that recruits like. Kids today want amenities and want them quickly. It also buys the coaches that can mold that talent.
You get talented recruits and you have a good chance to be successful. Talent doesn't guarantee success but massively helps. I would guess talent wins over 75% of the time. Add talent with your coach speak that goes up to over 90%. Look at Bama and Georgia, they get all that talent and actually know how to discipline it and put it in place to be successful.
99% of recruits don't care how successful you were 10+ years ago. They don't care about how pretty your campus is. They don't care about your alums. They don't care about your academics.
They want girls, what helps get them to the next level (getting rich for themselves), winning, and having fun things to do around campus.
