What is a “Native” anything? We all came from somewhere else, conquering territory from those who couldn’t hold it. The “Native Americans” came over a land bridge and conquered the previous inhabitants and then took the course of every other tribe on the globe, warring and fighting and fracturing over and over again. Just like on every other continent.

The fact that some tribes came in boats as opposed to other means should mean diddly. There are conquerors and conquered. When your grandchildren are born upon a land, they are native.

We can honor past peoples without condemning those that came after.

They're actually Asians. They appropriated this land long ago. Unfortunately as collectivists and nomads they didn't own anything.

Tribal distribution this year is going to be right at about $35,000.

That will buy a lot of firewater.

The point is that no land is truly owned, only held for a time until another tribe takes it from you.

If you know anything about “Native American” history, you’ll realize they’re not some monolithic group with a shared heritage. When Columbus arrived in the Mew World in 1492, there were approximately 600 different tribes in North America alone, each with their own culture and customs.

A few tribes grow into nations, even empires. Most though never advanced past Hunter/gatherer Stone Age status. Some tribes were peaceful and welcoming to outsiders. But most practiced a level of savagery worse than anything the “White Colonizer” ever dreamed of. They practiced slavery on a widespread basis. Genocide and wars of extermination between tribes were common, as were practices such as gruesome torture of captives, human sacrifice, and cannibalism.

So if we’re going to acknowledge “Native American Heritage Day”, let’s acknowledge the real history, not the false Disney version.
