Emerald Classic Road Trip Notes from an Old Tiger

My wife and I drove in today and got to see the Tigers in action. We have seen every game in person so far, and here are my thoughts from tonight.
1. We will be in every game we play because of hustling defense, but if we don’t improve our shot selection on offense, our D will not be enough against really disciplined teams.
2. Penn St was not particularly quick or athletic, but for some reason we seemed to take hurried shots, particularly Darius, who was frustrated by some non calls when he was clearly hacked.
3. Gaines is fricking quick on D,
4. Even though no one’s outside shot was on, absolutely no one on Penn St. could stop Eason driving to the basket.
5. I have never seen so many shots go in and out in a ballgame.
6. Reid taking the charge in OT was huge.
7. If they do a remake of the original Rocky, the Penn St coach Is the front runner to play Adrian’s worthless brother Pauly. Remarkable resemblance.
8. Nice, comfortable faculty which qualifies as an away game (sort of). 70 percent of those in the stands are Tiger fans. Our young team will learn some valuable lessons from this game.
9. Instead of us wearing the other team out with our smothering D, Penn St was able to break the press and get the ball in the front court, and then had us running side to side to cover the three as the ball was crisply passed around the horn.I think it frustrated our guys that we didn’t get more turnovers, even though we caused a fair number.
A sloppy game but an encouraging one to have won when we didn’t have shots falling.
Geaux Tigers.

Should have come off the press...

Shot selection was the main thing. A lot of forced shots rather than creating good looks. Should be a good learning experience. Can’t just rely on athleticism and turnovers

The second game went to OT also with the more talented team (Wake) winning. They are athletic- will be a good game with our Tigers.

I was in a tape delay on the game so I didn't follow the Rant last night. Instead of a new thread thought I would offer thoughts here:
The Good: Defense intensity traveled. Doesn't always happened. This team is bought in.
The Bad: Late game switching was horrid. Either stop switching, go zone or get Reid off the floor.
The Ugly: Shot selection. Woah. Not much needs to be said.
Excited for this team. They play HARD!!!

A few minor tweaks to starting lineup would help get them off to better start
If not some sec teams will bury this team early

Technically, for NET purposes, these are neutral site games, not away games.

Really enjoy reading your write ups.
Family made the trip over, what a great event and great games last night.
Any idea where the team is staying, son wants to try to get autographs.

You want Gaines to start? Fudge?
I like Gaines off the bench. He is too inconsistent on offense to start.

Was there and will be there again tonight! The crowd had its moments when it attempted to get loud last night. We definitely had the most fans, but we all knew we would lol

Eason needs to start
Gaines over Murray or Wilkinson

Will be heading there to see the Tigers play this evening. Any restrictions or requirements for entry into the arena in the sunshine state?

You are an all time LSU super fan.
Mad RESPEK.
Also nice analysis.

I just dont see why it matters who starts. Wade plays the guys playing the best toward the end of the game

GasTiger, there are no mask requirements in place. Nice small arena. Concessions are cash only.

I agree on all but really frustrating that wade did not keep Reid on the floor more. His presence changes the game.
Gaines is getting better and better.
Only thing that really pissed me off was Wade drawing up a play to have pinson shoot from outside while only up by 3 with less then 15 second left. Just drive to the basket only need 1 point to make it a two score game.

Normally agree so far, but his feet looked really slow last night. His defense was below average down the stretch. Must have eaten too much turkey.

Good summary. How about the campus itself—nice?
