Since the 45-38 ot win in 2000, LSU's 7 wins vs Mississippi State had been by an average of 42-5.Some of them could have easily been worse.

LSU came back home after an emotional road win vs a top 10 team in front of GameDay.State had slopped around with La Tech--losing,SELa,and horrible offensive performances vs Auburn and Georgia Tech.

I think the majority of LSU fans (not all)felt this would be another 45-6 type win, pull out the starters midway in the third and get ready for the Gators with a week off thrown in.I know fans don't play, but whereas the team can feed off support during a game,I can't help but think the ho-hum attitude during the week didn't trickle down somewhat to the team.

Nonetheless,State did put up 24.Hopefully we can make the most of this game and work on what State did to get ready for a tough stretch coming up.If State can get some short passes going and put togethor an 8 minute scoring drive,so can Florida.

Personally...
I think a combination of things happened:
1)early injuries in the game(should be able to pug in other players w/out too much change)
--the leadership - aggressiveness got affected.
2)Poor tackling...too many "try to knock-them-down hits" instead of wrapping them up hits.
3)We forget this is Lee's first real start...some passes were a little off...he will get better.
4)We are one game behind in experience for this season...we will get better.

don't disagree with any of those, but 2 and 4 in particular are dead-on.

MSU game was the most boring game I've ever watched. I could tell the players were tired, not to mention some key defensive injuries. And even though we played like crap, we still had MSU under our thumb. Not an impressive win but after this weekend, it could have been much worse. LSU has a week off and we will be ready!

A little off? He completed 67% of his passes! He made two really bad throws that I can remember ... the INT and the almost INT to KW on the swing pass.

I'll take this "a little off" every game.

If that was the most boring game you've watched, you haven't watched much football my friend.

I really don't think it was over-confidence.
I think it was more a combination of:
New Quarterback trying to get his feet under him.
Very poor tackling (which I can't explain)
A Miss. State Team that is getting better.
And something to do with the stars aligning where 3 top teams lose in the same weekend, 2 of them to weak teams.

Maybe, but isn't it possible that Miss. State played a good game?
This isn't the same Miss. State that looked so bad in their first 3 games. The addition of Lee to their backfield added a spark to the previous nonexistent offense. It'll be interesting to see what State does from here on out.
Added info: Tyson Lee is a better than average QB. In fact he was a 4 star JC transfer player. I believe our Lee was a 4 star player as well.

In the end, this may be a good thing for the team going into the open date. Instead of spending the week patting themselves on the back, they will be focused on correcting mistakes and listening to the coaches.

As far as Lee goes, he was the least of my worries. He looked a lot more like the Lee from the 2nd half of the Auburn game than the one from the 1st. He made some good blitz reads and some big plays. Anybody remember how bad Mauck look until the UF game in 02? Lee is well ahead of that pace now.

Yes. I still think we took them lightly. But,Miss State came to play and its not their responsibility to worry about LSU.

MSU = classic trap game. Coming down from the Auburn win, looking ahead to Florida next. We've gotten past the trap, we should be fine from here on in.

I agree with this. There is no way the defense is in any way satisfied with how they played, and hopefully this will make them very hungry to make an impression at Florida.

His great % does not change that it was his first true start.
Do not read BAD or CRITICISM into a little off.
I saw a few passes miss their target....just an observation. I think he is doing a terrific job. In our level of competition, a few off plays can make the difference.

No one knows yet, but judging a team on their past as an ABSOLUTE is a mistake. It is only logical that other teams will improve weekly as well.

His mechanics are good. The only reason he was overlooked by a lot of teams was his size. I believe the only two BCS teams that looked seriously at signing him was us and K-State. He moved the team against Ga Tech. We just froze up in the red zone in that game.

No, they aren't capable of it. They're slow, lack athleticism, and had a brand new quarterback who's never played before, or at least hasn't played much. They have no playmakers other than a couple of running backs, no offensive line, and no imagination whatsoever in their offensive play calling. This was piss-poor defense by LSU, nothing whatsoever to do with Mississippi State.

Yes, it is, and they will show it in their next game and thereafter.

Wide arse open receivers were an even bigger spark.

Watching them lose pretty much all their games isn't all that interesting. Try talking to one of their fans about that.

Then why wasn't he on the field against Auburn or Louisiana Tech? Why couldn't he get anything done against Georgia Tech until the game was over? If he was any good, he'd have been on the field and State would have managed more than 23 total points in their other three games against FBS opponents.

Our Lee is a hell of a lot better than any quarterback MSU has had since...well, since I can remember. If the two teams had traded quarterbacks on Saturday night, we very likely would have lost the game.

I have a few friends who are more "casual" fans (i.e. fans of LSU and not football itself) who thought the game was boring," because it really lacked the big play factor on either side of the ball.

We can only hope this is true. Maybe the defense just didn't try to play well against Mississippi State and are actually capable of playing much better. Our chances at Florida depend on that being true.

Absolutely. Of course he may have an off game somewhere down the line, as every quarterback does, particularly as a freshman. But we absolutely could not have asked for a first-year starting QB to come in and play any better than he has. The fact that he's only four games and one start into his career and is already playing this well should be a matter of serious concern to our SEC rivals.
