If it is Riley, is there a single comparable hire in modern CFB history?

Saban did not move directly from LSU to Alabama. Meyer did not go directly from Florida to Ohio State. In some ways, the closest analogue is Fisher going from FSU to TAMU, but Fisher's record in Tallahasee was declining by the time he decamped. I cannot identify another instance from the last thirty or forty years were a coach at the height of his career at one traditional powerhouse left for another traditional powerhouse. Am I overlooking something obvious from the modern era?

There’s no comparison in CFB. It’d be the biggest coaching poach in modern history

Another one of these threads?

You can try to say it's not similar to Jimbo leaving FSU for aTm, but it very much is. They both would have been pulled off by Woodward too.

FIsher had won a NC, Riley hasn't won a playoff game.
Fisher was a bigger coup.

Agreed 100%. Riley hasn’t won anything, Fisher had won it all.

This is true, but I'd much rather have Riley as our next coach.

Fisher had an open and known rift with the FSU administration. It wasn’t as much of a poaching as it was a relationship turned sour and he wanted out.

Not every situation is going to be exactly the same. They would have a lot of similarities between the hires though. It's certainly the most comparable one I can think of.

Agree on that but I do think Riley would surpass it

Lane Kiffin went from Tennessee to USC.
Jimbo Fisher went from FSU to TAMU.

Why the frick would Lincoln Riley leave an established powerhouse for a garbage dumpster fire?
Especially since he's about to be coaching in the SEC anyway?

Not at all. FSU was done with him. Nothing like Riley and OU

Larger is Mal Moore convincing Saban to Leave Miami.

Because he’s coming into the SEC and knows OU will be 3rd at best in the West and the last 3 coaches at LSU have won national championships and he’s a much better coach than two of them

Fear of what? The SEC is more fun when you guys aren't a shite show.
And you didn't answer the question.

All about the money plus anyone can win a natty here

No, which is all the more baffling why people think it's a done deal.
Then people are going to make Woodward the scapegoat if he doesn't pull off literally the most difficult hire in modern history.

The only reason this could happen is an absurd chunk of cash. Like $12M/yr
